August1991 Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Was it the result of an affair - or even affairs - as the rumour mill suggests? Or was it just the sad end to long-simmering marital difficulties? Inquiring Nova Scotians need to know - indeed, have a right to know - why Premier Rodney MacDonald and his wife Lori-Ann separated. In government offices and media newsrooms, and in the many coffee shops of metro Halifax, tongues are wagging about the recent breakup of the young couple. To those on the outside, it came as a shock. Insiders, however, tell a different story, suggesting MacDonald's clean-cut, straightlaced, committed family man image is just that - an image. Halifax Daily NewsAnybody know anything about this? As far as I'm concerned, politicians have so many perks at our expense the least they can do is suffer a public private life. The public has every right to be in the bedroom of the state. In any case, it is usually exhibitionists with big egos that get into the political game. Quote

Not should it to you unless it has some effect on govenment policy. Do you think it does? Quote
August1991 Posted August 20, 2006 Author Report Posted August 20, 2006 From what I gather, this guy ran his last campaign as a family man and willingly put his wife on display when he thought it would garner votes. Now he says: “My private matters should be dealt with privately and personally,” he said. “I would ask people to respect that, as I would respect any of you in your private matters.” G & MThat strikes me as a self-serving argument. His comparison of his privacy to that of an ordinary voter is silly. If someone goes into public life, then they must accept all the consequences of that choice. If they don't like the heat, they should get out of the kitchen. They can't have it both ways. They can't pick and choose when the spotlight will shine on them. And yes, I do think the personal lives of our politicians matter. Quote
jdobbin Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 And yes, I do think the personal lives of our politicians matter. If the people of the province believe it is an issue, they'll be able to deal with it in the election. Harper puts his wife and kids out there. Should there be investigations into them for moral behaviour? Quote

I feel for those family-man-image-voters as much as I feel for people who get conned into spending their money on stupid "get rich quick" schemes. Next, they will be looking for chicken in their chicken soup! Quote We do not have time for a meeting of the flat earth society. << Où sont mes amis ? Ils sont ici, ils sont ici... >>
