August1991 Posted December 30, 2025 Report Posted December 30, 2025 Created in the 1960s, our Social Insurance Number has 9 digits - the last is a check digit, based on the previous 8. The first digit was an indicator of province/region (2 was Alberta, 4 was Ontario, 5 was Quebec): 9 was for refugees. PXX-XXX-XXY ==== US Social Security Numbers also have 9 digits: AAA-GG-SSSS (No check digit). ========= Here's my question: We honest older people all have a SIN/SSC. -to avoid identify theft, should the State implant/record our numbers? . John Stone Posted December 30, 2025 Report Posted December 30, 2025 I think Snowden exposed the facade of cyber security. There is no security when a State is involved. Quote
