Created in the 1960s, our Social Insurance Number has 9 digits - the last is a check digit, based on the previous 8.

The first digit was an indicator of province/region (2 was Alberta, 4 was Ontario, 5 was Quebec): 9 was for refugees.

PXX-XXX-XXY

US Social Security Numbers also have 9 digits:

AAA-GG-SSSS (No check digit).

Here's my question:

We honest older people all have a SIN/SSC.

-to avoid identify theft, should the State implant/record our numbers?

I should hope that they have a record of them somewhere 😂

Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase !
