In Ontario, 91 percent of handguns recovered from crimes in 2024 came in illegally from the United States, according to the provincial government.

In Toronto, the country’s biggest city, 88 percent of all firearms recovered from crimes in 2024 were smuggled across the border.

The Canadian authorities have also been confiscating more firearms at the border with the United States: 827 in 2024, up from 459 in 2020, according to the Canada Border Services Agency.

Across Canada, the homicide rate increased 33 percent from 2013 to 2023, largely because of firearm killings, which jumped 89 percent, according to government data.

As U.S. Guns Pour Into Canada, the Bodies Pile Up

Jooyoung Lee, a professor of sociology at the University of Toronto who studies the underlying causes and long-term consequences of gun violence, says

"One thing we've known for many, many generations is that the U.S. is a global exporter of firearms and the vast majority of crime guns in Canada are originating in a very small kind of handful of U.S. states that have much more lax and porous gun laws.”

As Trump falsely accuses Canada of being a major importer of fentanyl to the US, maybe some attention should be put on this northbound gun problem.

........the problem of contraband is a Canadian border problem?

Canada cannot and never could and likely never will be able to defend it's sovereignty in any way, shape or form.

Like any country, it really comes down to money, political will, personnel and geography.

Political hacks of course are grateful to have a convenient diversionary excuse - blame the U.S.

Most illegal handguns come across the border.

In response, our super knowledgeable Liberal government banned the sale and stopped transfer of any legally purchased handgun in Canada.

They also banned 2500 types of so called "assault rifles" at a cost of between $2 and $6 Billion.

Nothing about spending $2 to $6 Billion on border control.

It's not Trump's problem it's ours.

There is some fentanyl going from Canada to the US and even a tiny amount can kill a lot of people.

The handgun thing has a lot to do with criminal gang activity and the Liberal policy of catch and release.

I'm all for Canada and the US both having secure borders.

Beware the Brookfield industrial complex...

Like what?

Guns are not inherently bad. Criminals are bad. Perhaps you should do more to combat crime and punish criminals.

That same old, old argument... How many mass killings have been carried out with slingshots?

Grenade launchers are not inherently bad. Everybody should have at least one?

Why were guns invented? What is their primary use?

Quite a few people have been killed by rental trucks. So... you think rental trucks are bad?

No. Where did I ever say everyone should have at least one gun?

This is what folks like you are forced to do when you can't make well-reasoned arguments: you have to argue from the absurd.

The answer to your questions is that not all killing is bad. I mean, maybe perhaps you are the kind of person who would just stand there and watch someone rape and murder your wife?

You obviously have no idea what a gun is.

Are you frightened of "Big Bertha"?

I guess the guns are just going to jump up off the table and start killing people on its own…. OP your premise is…for lack of a better word…retarded. Don’t blame America for your own Canadian on Canadian crimes.
