August1991 Posted September 4, 2025 Report Posted September 4, 2025 Years ago, I wanted/planned to see it on Broadway. I finally saw it in Montreal. 1. Too long. Repetitive. It was 2h45 - it should have been 2h15. 2. Orchestra? There's no orchestra - no orchestra pit. (I watched as a guy in front of a piano raised his hand. Apparently, it has 10 "musicians" under the stage.) 3. Very DEI, post-Obama, Disney American. Impossible to understand unless you speak such a language. As we walked out, I took a US 10 from my wallet. "Look carefully, I said. It's about him." 3a. She said? "Las Vegas est mieux." Quote
Chrissy1979 Posted September 4, 2025 Report Posted September 4, 2025 I would have suggested becoming familiar with the soundtrack before going, both to see whether you would like it and to give yourself a chance to process, understand, and appreciate the lyrics. It's pretty densely packed into its near 3 hours. It's pretty rapidfire at times but absolutely everything rhymes. Quote

As I say, it was Disney Broadway circa 2015. Quote

SpankyMcFarland Posted September 4, 2025 Report Posted September 4, 2025 I’m not a fan of hip-hop and had expectations turned down accordingly but this show was utterly brilliant. I’d encourage anybody to see it who hasn’t done so. Quote ‘How small we make our worlds. Gather them in, tighten them up into little castles of fear.’

I know the story, the history. ====== As I watched/listened to this weird transformation of history, I thought about a future musical in 2080 or so. Nixon! Born poor in California, meets Mao, Dean as a nemesis, and a singing Haldeman! Quote
