BHS Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 http://www.theglobeandmail.com So, Angelina Jolie is a UN Goodwill Ambassador who has used her celebrity as a bully pulpit to make demands on both her fellow celebrities and on the peoples and governments of the world to do more for those humanitarian projects she has deemed worthy. It's time for a little quid pro quo. The government of Namibia is not only looking at making the day her child is born a national holiday, they are arresting reporters and refusing entry to others to protect Brangelinas' privacy. Altruism ceases to be altruism when it's traded in for luxury and privilege. I've never had much of an interest in Brad or Angelina outside of their work, but for me at least this turn of events tarnishes whatever good came before it. How can someone 'wield celebrity status'? Did she threaten to quit acting? This garbage is why I gave up television over a decade ago. Who cares what 'actors' think? People who listen to other people because they are 'celebrities' (for pretending to be yet other people, no less) are the most pathetic excuses for humans I have ever seen. Just my opinion, of course. Quote Would the Special Olympics Committee disqualify kids born with flippers from the swimming events?

theloniusfleabag Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 Dear BHS, Who the hell is Brangelina? I thought you said Angelina Jolie was in Namibia. Is that her nickname? Like 'J-lo'? Quote Would the Special Olympics Committee disqualify kids born with flippers from the swimming events?

This is a refined and challenging art and I take pride in my ability. Quote

BHS, Never mind my question, I googled it. 'TomKat', too, Hrrrrp.<splash> Quote Would the Special Olympics Committee disqualify kids born with flippers from the swimming events?
Nocrap Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 I feel the same way about celebs. I have my favourites and will watch most movies they star in, but beyond that I couldn't care less. They are doing a job...entertaining us, and get well paid for it. What they do in their private lives is none of my business or concern. However, with Angelina, I just can't buy her as a Mother Theresa. She is so weird. I saw an interview a few years ago and she was showing off a little bottle that she wore around her neck containing her current husband's or boyfriend's blood. When asked why she did it, she giggled and said "it's (whomever's) blood, then I believe kissed the vial. Don't modern day vampires do something similar? My guess is she'll get bored with this latest adventure soon and move onto something else. Right now she rants at the media, but never misses a good photo-op. Quote

I have the same opinion of people that listen to reporters... the only people I dislike more than celebrities is news media, as they actual try to pretend they know more on technical topics than you or I. BubberMiley Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 No kidding. In the U.S. they even elected this senile, dim-witted actor president, and this other guy who can barely speak English governor of California. BHS Posted May 27, 2006 Author Report Posted May 27, 2006 No kidding. In the U.S. they even elected this senile, dim-witted actor president, and this other guy who can barely speak English governor of California. Reagan was neither senile nor dim-witted when he was elected. He accomplished many of his goals, even with a Democratic Congress. In retrospect he is a highly regarded former President. Even those who despised him at the time have to admit that their predictions of calamity were wrong, and that he made few mistakes in his eight years in office. Schwarzenegger speaks better English than Chretien does. Reagan, Bush I, Bush II and Schwarzenegger are the political heirs of the Barry Goldwater Republicans. Chretien and Martin are the political heirs of the Pierre Trudeau Liberals. Which party, which country, made out better in the long run? That you have a higher regard for the lawyers who typically infest politics than for citizens from other professions is your issue to deal with. Also, Reagan was governor of California before becoming president. Saying they elected an actor President is akin to saying the Bank of Montreal hired a paperboy as CEO. BubberMiley Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 Oh, so we should just ignore celebrities we disagree with. I can live with that. Quote "I think it's fun watching the waldick get all excited/knickers in a knot over something." -scribblet
Rue Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 I used to thing Angelina was hot. Then I saw her in an interview and she kid of came across like a skank so I am sorry but she has slid down my list. Halle Berry and Stacey Kiebler are right up there with Kiera Kightley. If Angelina starts showering again I might put her back on the list. All kidding aside she is a wierd celeberity and her using her celeberity status and money to wip about the planet and lecture people is a bit presumptious but she's at least not Paris Hilton. WHile Ms. Jolie may be a bit too self-righteous I can handle her more then say Paris Hilton or that generation of spoiled rich idiots. I mean having a social conscience and doing good things is cool. Where it gets nauseating is where you use it to build your own publicity. Charity should be done quitely and without bring attention to yourself otherwise you defeat the purpose of it and what it means. Quote

Paris Hilton actually accomplishes things in the real world though suprisingly, she's a remarkably successful business woman (daddy obviously taught her something). I'm surpised more women don't jump on that bandwagon like Belinda's... plus Hilton is a lot better looking. What people do in their spare time is their business. Jolie is just a crazy nut that happened to be at the right audition. She's also a rich spoiled brat by the way. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --
