August1991 Posted June 23, 2025 Report Posted June 23, 2025 (edited) All US citizens, regardless of residency wherever in the world, must file an annual statement to the IRS. I reckon all Canadian citizens should do the same to the CRA, or Revenu Quebec. ===== At present, the Quebec government calculates, collects the federal GST - sending the money to Ottawa. It has precise rules on state pensions CPP/RRQ. It determines who can access the state health scheme. The Quebec government has its own bureaucracy to calculate/collect income tax. . "Do Canadians living abroad have to file Canadian taxes If you're a Canadian living abroad, taxes regulations require you to declare the net income earned outside of Canada when filing your tax returns to avail your non-refundable tax credits. So even though you won't be paying income tax, the amount of non-refundable tax credits you can claim in Canada will be affected." https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/international-non-residents/individuals-leaving-entering-canada-non-residents/non-residents-canada.html Edited June 23, 2025 by ExFlyer 1 1 Quote You are entitled to your opinion, but you are not entitled to tell me what mine should be.

Canadian taxes do not require you to file if you didn't make any money. So Canadians living abroad who are not declaring any income do not have to file Canadian tax forms. Most people think that you are required to submit a tax declaration as they are in the states even if you didn't earn anything but nope, that is not the case in Canada. This appears to be what he's alluding to Correct. The IRS requires a US citizen to submit/file a declaration. Every year. Even if you have no income, no wealth. In Canada, the CRA/Revenu Quebec, we do not. Quote
