The deal, which the UK government has said will save “thousands of jobs”, will see car export tariffs slashed from 27.5 per cent to 10 per cent, for a quota of 100,000 UK cars. This, the government said, is almost the total the UK exported last year. Mr Trump’s 25 per cent tariffs on steel will be axed entirely, while a levy on ethanol – which is used to produce beer – coming into the UK from the US has been removed entirely. In addition to this, the two governments have negotiated new reciprocal market access on beef, giving UK farmers a tariff free quota of 13,000 metric tonnes of meat. Downing Street has also said that the US has agreed to give the UK “preferential treatment” in any further tariffs imposed as part of Section 232 investigations - a process where the US government determines if certain imports threaten US national security. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/us-uk-trade-deal-beef-explained-trump-starmer-b2747429.html Will Trump give us the same deal...........................or, was he telling Carney, "you'd wish?" So far he hasn't given carney even a date when they will start negotiating NAFTA. None of this goes away for us entirely until that happens Quote "That which doesn't kill me... "The U.S. law implementing CUSMA requires the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to initiate public consultations 270 days before the July 1, 2026, start date for talks. That would be this coming October." I hope your personal sources in cabinet will keep us apprised of what is or isn't happening behind the scenes. 1 Quote

Trump has already breached the agreement, and we have a tariff situation right now. So why would we leave tariffs in place for five more months before we even start talking? Why wouldn't we start talking now? Why aren't we asking for that? Quote I hope your personal sources in cabinet will keep us apprised of what is or isn't happening behind the scenes. They say it's because carney is actually ineffective and you guys got suckered and devoting for a lame duck as a knee-jerk reaction There you go, you're an insider now. The Brits had a plan to deal with trump. The game, they visited, they gave him a summons to the king which he followed, and now they have a framework for a deal. I don't think it's a particularly good deal but it's still better than what they have right now and it could always be improved on. That's how you get things done. We went for no reason, have achieved nothing, have no goals and Carney's whole elbows up routine went right out the window Quote "That which doesn't kill me... Had better start running."

It is possible there are negotiations happening underway behind the scenes. We might be surprised by an announcement..........who knows? Keep tab of Trump whenever he speaks. He could mention something about it. Edited May 10, 2025 by betsy Quote

He could mention something about it. Anything is possible but usually they announce that kind of thing because it stabilizes the market. For example the deal with Britain isn't actually done they just agreed to some basic terms and now they're going to hash out a lot of the details and there will be adjustments but they rushed to announce this deal as if it was a completed thing because it brings a little bit of stability to the market which has been extremely volatile. I'm sure there are all kinds of discussions going on in the background in a sort of general sense and given the volatility of the market and how the American economy is doing it may very well turn out that shortly they feel a strong need to put the uncertainty behind them so that the economy can begin to recover. They're already talking about creating "Template" agreements that they can use as rubber stamps for dozens of countries that are similar in economic nature and trade, so with a little fine-tuning they can speed things up. I mean they're not stupid. The economic impact of this hasn't even really begun to be felt yet, we're at the tip of the iceberg. The economy is starting to slow, it's not horrible yet but by the time it is horrible it'll be too late to course correct so they'll be under pressure to get things going the other way sooner rather than later. Yeah, 2 months after the meeting. You basically just took what I said and rewrote it. Is that how you make yourself feel better? Quote

Sure, they agreed to start working on it immediately and set a 90 day time frame. Where's our time frame? Where's our announcements? When the British PM went they talked about immediately working on the issues. And trump agreed to come see the king. It was obvious things were progressing. There is no evidence whatsoever that Carney's visit has done a single thing to move things along. Trump even got the last word in about the 51'st state. the guy went from 'elbows up' to 'sit quietly' and got nothing. Quote "That which doesn't kill me... Had better start running."
