Some context:

Does Statistics Canada have a contract with Lockheed Martin?

Yes. Following an open, competitive and stringent bidding process, Lockheed Martin Canada along with IBM Canada and Transcontinental Printing Canada are required to provide hardware, software and printing services to Statistics Canada for the 2006 Census.

Margrace, where were the component parts for your computer manufactured? If you learn that some were made in China, do you consider that a threat to the confidentiality of your data?

Oh, and Margrace, do you run Windows?

Hehe I am going to put my pets on the census this year hehe. Imagine a 80 year old fart with 3 year olds, should be a hoot. What the hell they gonna do send me to prison? At least I won't have to eat Kibbles and Bits there and I'll have a warm place to live.

And the OS was built by Bill Gates. ? So what. The issue here is the information at hand. And how it is used.

I don't see the data being more at risk simply because it went to a company in the U.S.

Maybe we should take all of our records to the US, they are far more capable.

Anyone remember how many times the long-arm registry was broken into, giving criminals the exact location of all the guns in Canada? Hmm.... those New Brunswickers!

Isn't census Canada still doing the actual data collection? Thought it was just the software that the U.S. company is providing ?? Whats the problem with that if its cheaper for the taxpayers?

The problem is that it's American.

Thats my take on it too, the only reason its getting space is because an American company is providing the software (not doing the actual census). Just goes to show you how hate of the U.S. spills over into perceptiions.

Exactly, very anti-American. A French or British company running a couple computers to compile the data wouldn't even make the news.

The ignorance and intolerance of the media. I love it.

Lame.

Take your paranoid conspiracies elsewhere. If the US wants info on Canada, they'll take it. They won't try to sneak in through supplying a more efficient and cost effective census.
