Think Tank Urges DOGE To Make ATC ‘User-Funded’ Reason Foundation says government funding model a drag on ATC system.

There are positive and negative aspects of this. I will say, I like user funded programs.

  2. If they can't refute the content, attack the poster.
  3. If 1 and 2 fail, pretend it never happened.
  4. Everyone you disagree with is Hitler.
  5. A word is defined by the emotion it elicits and not the actual definition.
  6. If they are wrong, blame the opponent.
  7. If a liberal policy didn't work, it's a conservatives fault and vice versa.
  8. If all else fails, just be angry.

One of the reasons flying is more expensive in Canada compared to the US is all the user pay fees that are government paid in the US. ATC, airport security, airport improvement are all added the price of our ticket. Also, the federal government  owns the land our major airports are located on and charges the airport authorities hundreds of millions in rent every year, which of course is passed on to the airlines. When you add in carbon taxes and GST on fuel and everything else, airlines and civil aviation in general is a cash cow for our federal government instead of a cost.

I don't know if going private will improve your ATC system but it will increase the cost of tickets

Should you subsidize my ticket?

I'm not taking a position on this, just telling you the consequences. Actually, I hope you do privatize all the services that are paid by your federal government because our downloaded costs make it more difficult for our airlines to compete when there is a US alternative close to the border

This all tracks. A super "smart" trend that could make all of America as great as the for-profit prison system.

Up next: Do we really need an interstate highway system?

If you'll remember, it was Biden that chose not to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the interstate system. I assume it's because Dwight D Eisenhower was the POTUS that brought that about.

I had no idea. Sounds like the Tan Suit Crisis all over again.

The libertarian nutballs would prefer a hodgepodge of toll roads crossing private property with whatever rules and standards the owner applies agreed to by contract when the toll is paid.  -- And they just haven't figured out how to manage flying toll booths.
