Montgomery Burns Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Conservative hottie Michelle Malkin interviews Mama Moonba, er Cindy Sheehan....and strikes a nerve with one question. Video P.S. Don't know if anyone has heard this yet, but Hollywood is making a movie about Cindy Sheehan with Susan Sarandon to play the role of Ms. Sheehan. One more news tidbit: Gallup Polling drops CNN because of low ratings We have chosen "not" to renew our contract with CNN. [...]WHY. 1) CNN has far fewer viewers than it did in the past and we feel that our brand was getting lost and diluted combined with the CNN brand. We have only about 200 thousand viewers during our CNN segments. People continue to tune out the biased liberal media... I wonder where the public is going instead. Perhaps to a certain channel that offers fair and balanced news. Damn, I always though(I really do) of CNN as being pretty right leaning with Blitzer, Dobbs and co. I guess it's a matter of perception. I've never heard anyone credible call Wolf Blitzer a rightwinger, although personally I think he's okay. I consider him centre-left. Lou Dobbs does little but critisize the Bush administration. Just because he is a mature caucasian who wears a suit and hosts a business show, it doesn't make him a Republican. Ted Turner is on the record as being pro-Fidel Castro and he's an apologist for North Korea's communist regime. And we all know about his wife's (Jane Fonda) support for communism. She stabbed the US military in the back. That's what Democrats do, not Republicans. And who could ever forget CNN allowing Kerry campaign advisors, James Carville and Paul Begala, to host Crossfire during the 2004 election--a flagrant conflict of interest. That's what Democrats do, not Republicans. There you go again - calling everyone who criticises the Republican view of the world anti-American or communist. Montgomery Burns Posted March 24, 2006 Author Report Posted March 24, 2006 You're denying that Turner is an apologist for Castro and Kim's North Korea? The nerve of Americans (not just Republicans) who dubbed Fonda as 'Hanoi Jane'! Where ever did they get such a silly idea? This is what I find bothersome about many on the left. They are sympathetic, even supportive, of communist regimes, but when they are called on it, they shriek 'free speech' or their new meme, 'dissent is patriotic'. Riverwind Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 What a crock. Many on the left supported and were sympathetic to the USSR; they fought Reagan every step of the way against his crusade against that murderous evil empire. You just don't get it. Reagan's crusade was a huge waste of taxpayers money for very little benefit to Americans. People who opposed Reagan did not believe for one second that the Soviets were paragons of virtue. They just felt that an expensive arms race was a dumb way to deal with them. Turns out the anti-cold war people were right - the USSR would have collapsed on its own no matter what Reagan did. Many also support Castro's Cuba (Cuba has a 100% literacy rate and healthcare for all).Republicans try to paint Castro as the devil incarnate. Political opponents bring these things up to point out that the Castro regime is not all bad. This does not mean these people believe that Cuba is a paridise - far from it. The bottom line is these issues are much more complex and it is not possible to paint them as simple good vs. evil no matter how much the right wing propaganda mongers try. Quote To fly a plane, you need both a left wing and a right wing.
KrustyKidd Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 the USSR would have collapsed on its own no matter what Reagan did. And a desparate person would also collapse under conditions of poverty and destitution. However, if there were no law enforcement, they would more than likely attempt to steal, bully, avoid paying debts or simply claim ownership of items if they were bigger than others around them. In a nuclear scenario that is very dangerous. The Soviet Union would have collapsed yes, it is after all, an inferior system. However, without effective detterence, it would have done whatever it could to avoid collapsing, WWIII included if they thought they could have made it work. Regan did good. Brought the end to them in both mind and body without killing us all. You just don't get it. Reagan's crusade was a huge waste of taxpayers money for very little benefit to Americans. If Star Wars is part of the assertation, it just may end up being the first, last and only line of deffense if America has to go isolationist if the War on Terror operation fails. Although I doubt Regan had that in mind as I firmly believe to him it was a wish or a bluff of sorts, it is now a reality in the making. And quite possibly, a very necessary one. Brought the end to them in both mind and body without killing us all. I'm curious: if Reagan's free spending was part of a deliberate strategy to push the Soviet Union over, why didn't they see the collapse coming? It's easy to assign post hoc credit, but given the complete ignorance the United States had of the USSR's military capabilities and economic situation right up until the last throes, it's hard to believe that it was all a delibirate plan. As for the last line above, you do know Reagan's confrontational rhetoric brought the world closer to the brink of nuclear war than any other leader.
