I'd rather have the US as a neighbor than one of these wing nut countries...

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.26

I want to earn money and keep the majority of it.

still not a fair question... While I like most Americans I've met, there are exceptions. Same can be said of some Canadians... I find that I disagree with most of the US policy lately.

Forget how you feel about a government. Governments come and go. There is no need for them or us to like the particular government in power in either of our countries in order to answer this question. The question said EN MASSE, not as individuals. A fair question and a simple one IMO. I don't agree with all my friends all the time or vice versa.

That would be fine, except every time anyone critisizes the government or it's policy they're called "anti-American" by some idiot rightwinger.

Rightwingers are the ones who need learn the distinction between governments and people.

I think there are those on both sides of the fence who need to learn that distinction.

Our politicians saying they "hate the bastards" and their flunkies calling their head of state a "moron" isn't criticism.

There are those on both sides of the fence who need to learn the difference between criticism and an insult.

I would much rather have the U.S. as a neighbour than China, North Korea or for that matter the United Nations, as I am not quite sure just who they support. I have my doubts ever since the Oil for Food scam attributed to the U.N., France, Russia, Austria, Koffi Annan's son and Maurice Strong, and let's not forget the money Suddam invested in a company partailly owned by Paul Martin and family, money I might add that came illegally from the oil-for-food program.

So what if they're the baddest asses on the planet? Hey, they're our friends 'cause if we didn't call them our friends they would commit all their bad-ass crimes on us!

I guess it is better than living beside a Vietnamese gang house or a Indo-Canadian gang house so hey, we should be happy that we live next to the "nicest" criminal on the planet.

Not really. There's a difference between crit. a gov't (and a foreign one at that) and malicious intent, with the express purose of trying undermine or bring down that government.

Tell you what: you go live in North Korea & Iran for a few years then get back to me on that ridiculous comment.

Jerry, don't get mad.

I did say we live beside the nicest criminal on the planet.

I did say that living beside them is better than living beside the other criminals on the planet.

I've lived near a Hell's Angels clubhouse. They were really nice, very "neighbourly". Bad-asses to everyone else, but nice to those who lived on "their block." ;)

Yes, the USA is the "nicest" criminal on the planet. Would you not agree? Would you say they are the worst criminals on the planet?

Lets see. South Korea maintains a military of around 600,000 compared to Canada's 60,000. I don't think countries who really have something to fear from their neighbors put much faith in your theory. Perhaps it's because they really do have something to fear and you don't.

It's not a "theory" but an "analogy"

I never said they were "equal" criminals.

I said they are the nicest criminals on the planet, certainly not the worst.

None-the-less, they are still criminals IMO.

Canadians must surely be criminals too then right?

Canadians did fund the genocide in Sudan. Everyone's hands are dirty Drea, I'd hope you don't actually think we are somewhat morally better than the Americans in that regard. I can point out many situations where Canada was up to no good, maybe not as much as the Americans, but we also haven't done as much good as them either.

All right, they don't seem to have any faith in your analogy.

Seems to me that Iraq under Saddam invaded Iran a few years ago resulting in an eight year war with over a million dead and during which the Iraqis used chemical weapons. I don't think Iran would have any faith in your analogy either. I know I don't think much of it.

Whenever something goes wrong in the world half of it dumps on the Americans if they don't act, because they are the top dog. If they do act, they get dumped on by the other half. Quite often it's the same half because for them the Americans can do no right. It's a no win situation so they might just as well act in what they see to be their and the worlds interest.

America will never disturb Canadas border, I think that's pretty obvious and a good reason not to wish we'd trade places with a different "criminal nation."
