Liberal teacher to students: Hate America!

Recommended Posts

Which is utter rot. Just like the rest of his Hate-America rant. It has been proven time and time again that capitalism is more humane, carring, and compassionate compared to socialism. Alas, he will probably not be fired for having 20 minute rants that have nothing to do with geography. Apparently (surprise!) the school board is very liberal. Plus, it is virtually impossible to fire someone who is in an union.

First world countries (the USA, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, England, etc) have a blend of capitalism and socialism.

Pure capitalism* cares not a wit for the human equation. Pure capitalism cares only for the fiscal bottom line.

*pure socialism doesn't work either, it has to be a blend of both.

This is what he literally said:

"Do you see how this economic system is at odds with humanity? At odds with caring and compassion? It's at odds with human rights."

His statement is accurate: capitalism has nothing to do with compassion - it is all about greed.

Societies that adopt capitalism as the primary basis for their economic system tend to be wealthier and do a better job of helping people that need help, however. this compassion does not happen because of capitalism. It happens because the people in the society have values other than the self-centered greed that is necessary for capitalism to work.

In others words, the most compassionate societies are those with a free economic system but balanced with some level of social democratic values.

Which is utter rot. Just like the rest of his Hate-America rant.
Your propaganda is tiresome. This guy points out the blatant hypocrisy in US foreign policy and you claim he is anti-America. The neo-cons do not speak for America - they speak for one particular slice of America and disagreeing with them does not make someone anti-America.

Capitalism, as interpreted by its father, Adam Smith, was to be a free economic system combined with "good Christian values."

Another look at Canada's education system:

The Ontario Library Association refused to drop from its recommended list a book that includes Palestinian children endorsing suicide bombing.

“In our eyes, the book [Three Wishes by Deborah Ellis] is perfectly good and we stand by our selection committee and the rights of children to read this book,” said Larry Moore, the association’s executive director. The Canadian Jewish Congress asked for the book to be removed from a list of recommending reading for 8-11 year-olds, saying it does not provide young readers with enough context.

“They speak about suicide bombing and killing Israelis as suitable choices to make and as acts worthy of emulating,” said Len Rudner, the CJC’s national director of community relations. A Palestinian girl discusses her sister, a suicide bomber, as a martyr in paradise and suggests she will follow in her footsteps.

A Palestinian boy says, “Killing an Israeli will make me feel glad. It will make me feel strong.”

The indoctrination of our children continues...

This is not a school library.

Would you have our libraries refuse to carry controversial books? Are you for book banning?

Next time you get caught in a logical trap, as you did above, just shut up and don't try to parse your way out. You sound like a fool.

Translation: "Oh shit, my little rhetorical trap blew up in my face leaving me holding the bag: better pat myself on the back, declare victory and run like hell."

"rhetorical trap blew up in my face leaving " - yea, something like that, I nailed you to the wall using your own words.

Who's running?

Uh, my explanation was pretty clear and logical. If you want to dismiss it, that's your perogative, but don't act as though youi just pulled off a big rehtorical coup: you haven't. Your self-congratulatory bluster is simply cover for your inabiliy to counter my point.

Sparhawk:

His statement is accurate: capitalism has nothing to do with compassion - it is all about greed.

His ""Do you see how this economic system is at odds with humanity? At odds with caring and compassion? It's at odds with human rights" statement is incorrect.

Poor people lack wealth. Capitalism creates wealth. Socialism does not create wealth. It isn't caring nor compassionate to loot wealth from the individuals who created it. Vast inefficient govt bureaucracies that over-regulate and over-tax hinder wealth creation. The poor don't need handouts from the govt. Our inner cities (a testament to socialist policies) are testament to that. Ditto for Canada's Native population. And socialist govts need to get off the backs of the people who create wealth--the ambitious, the rich. Incentive is a good thing. Socialism doesn't offer much for incentive. Indeed, it hinders the incentive factor.

Look at the US. They are on the cutting edge of almost every industry. Have you seen what the US govt judges to be "poor"? These people are hardly destitute. Who is a poor person better off under: Bill Gates or Mother Teresa. A society that creates wealth brings up everybody's standard of living. And societies that are wealthy can afford to give to the truly disadvantaged through their own free will--through charities, NGOs, and yes, through their local church. No one is as generous as the Americans when it comes to giving to the needy. They don't have to put their old clothes/towels, etc in a garage sale to make a few bucks to get by. A wealthier society usually can't be bothered with that; it's a lot easier to just give them away--plus the satisfaction of helping somebody of your own free will, instead of being forced to do it.

People who claim to help they want to help the poor, but oppose capitalism, do not really have the interests of the poor in mind. As Thomas Sowell once quipped:

"To liberals, "compassion" means giving less productive people the fruits of the efforts of more productive people. But real compassion means enabling less productive people to become more productive themselves. That way, the poor have not only more material things but also more self-respect, as well as more respect from others, and the society as a whole has a higher standard of living and less internal strife."

Or from the father of economics, Adam Smith:

"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interests." I have never known much good done by those who affected to trade for the public good."

You may call it self-interest or "greed" but it has proven to work most of the time. This bothers some people because they're more concerned with motives than with results.

Your propaganda is tiresome. This guy points out the blatant hypocrisy in US foreign policy and you claim he is anti-America. The neo-cons do not speak for America - they speak for one particular slice of America and disagreeing with them does not make someone anti-America.

Columbia should destroy all the US tobacco crops because the US is trying to destroy Columbian coke fields?

Iran, North Korea, and Zimbwabe should get to gether and pre-emptively attack the US because it has WMD?

Pure anti-Americanism in a sophomore georgraphy class.

Oh, and the "neocons" do speak for America; they won the last election. It was the "progressives" who lost the election and do not speak for America.

Libraries are part of our education system.

I can't believe you support this book as recommended reading for 8 to 11 y/o children.

There already is book banning in Canada. My local library refused to order in the controverisal Unfit For Command by the Swift Boat Veterans, claiming it got "poor reviews". They also refused to order in Ann Coulter's newest book, How To Talk To A Liberal (If You Must), claiming it got "poor reviews".

The book also contains the perspective of Israeli children who say things such as:

This is our land. I wish all the Jews in the world could come to Israel, and that all the Palestinians would leave and go live in some other Arab country.

Of course, you can't offer a perspective that deviates from the right-wing "Palestinians=subhuman dogs/Israelis=sainted defenders of good" narrative. People might actually stop thinking in black and white terms and see the humanity on boh sides.

Are you for book banning?

So the answer to your question is "Yes, as long as the books that get banned are the one's I think should get baned."

Oh and Monty: a library refusing to carry a book is not "banning", anymore than FOXNews/Global's failure to follow up on their "Foxnews Canada" application was, no matter how much your persecution complex depends on it.

Black dog, only you would think that a Jewish kid saying he wishes all Palestinians would go live in some other Arab country is comparable to a Palestinian kid saying committing murder against an Israeli would make him feel glad and strong. I don't know why you can't see the difference between the two.

At any rate, the teacher's been reinstated:

http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_3589992

It seems disciplinary action was taken against the teacher, although he never lost any of his salary while he was on leave. An official said the lecture in question was a breach of district policy since the teacher didn't present both sides of arguments.

The student in question said, "I never wanted him fired. I just wanted hm to go back to teaching geography. Hopefully he won't be teqching the things he previously taught."

I'll repeat what I said earlier. You can bet the teacher will be more careful in the future, stupid things like Hitler comparisons will not be made anymore. Maybe he'll spend most of class time teaching the geography material, who knows. And relations between the teacher and pupil will be a little strained. Someone should keep an eye on that little neo-con's marks, if the teacher is small minded, they might take a dive.

Sean Allen (the Grade 10 student) was on Sean Hannity's radio show and he said that he was supposed to be on NBC's Today Show - via long distance feed - with Jay Bennish. He said NBC then changed their mind and he was scratched from the segment.

I guess Matt Lauer wanted to be able to put his liberal spin..."I understand that they shopped this tape around to conservative news sources"...."Do you get the feeling you were set up" (cleverly turning Bennish into the poor persecuted victim) without the highschool teen around.
