I agree with Tweak124. Though he or she may not have provided justification for his or her statements, there is some reason to what has been said. Perhaps this may reflect the views of Islamic fundamentalists. As Americans, we cannot afford to be ignorant of other group's views. That is why our past history is abound with civil rights movements.

Responding to what Tweak said about education, I decided to do some research. First of all according to a education report taken worldwide by the U.S. Department of Education, the average American school provides education 50% less in quality to that of other nation's such as Britain. They also took a survey and found that immigrated students did 20% better than the average American student. While these results may be shocking, there was some justification to what Tweak said.

See? See? Hugo, there is no need be arrogant. It is AMerica's ignorance that causes other nations to hate it so much. America is an imperialist nation. First, America wars Iraq based on "human rights". Then Liberia asks for help from the U.S., and the U.S. responds only when Charles Taylor resigns! Eh?

As Leonard Cohen put it in his song "Democracy": "It's comin' to America first, cradle of the best , and the worst"...

The United States is the only country that does not put a cap on how high someone can rise through his own effort.

it is the land of the second chance.. and the third... and the fourth. As long a you get up , perhaps battered and bloodied, and fight again.

You can get the education you want there. If you show ability, and drive, you will get whetever degree you're after. Companies will back up solid talent that they want. Universities will let them in just to have them there.

You also have the option of not going to university.... and still making it big. many of the most successful Americans had little or no formal education. Just a solid work ethic.

In socialist countries (almost everywhere except the USA) you are tested when you're twelve years old, and those tests determine in what stream of education you are placed. This is your life. Cookie-cutter nanny states.

The United States is the place where you can earn whatever your ability and drive can get you, but provides no guarantee that you'll keep it... but if you lose it you try again. And if you're a lazy sod, you can live in a trailer park. Nobody's stopping you... But nobody's going to reward you for sitting on your ass either.

That is why people hate the United States. Because Americans do not enshrine or reward mediocrity. Only excellence.

And that's why I'm going there one day.....soon.

Neal, first of all, I know all about America. As well as your fantasies about move here. Let me tell something else. Maybe some other people hate America because it rich. BUT, others hate it mostly because it doesn't mind it's own business. ALways meddling in foreign affairs, acting like the world police. America is bully, especially when a nation opposes it's views. France. America changes beloved "french fries" to really stupid name like "freedom fries". Americans throw french wine into the streets. AMericans fanatical, because France opposed to Bush and war.

Note the name "LiberalDem" agreeing with this.

Hating americans is almost a prerequisite to becoming a Liberal member.

But thats not racist, or hypocritical at all now, is it.

Watcher, just because I'm a liberal doesn't necessarily mean I hate Americans. Nor am I taking Tweak's side. But I thought you knew that already. I'm just providing justification for one of the things tweak has said, though many of his other statement's may have been absurd. My political affiliation doesn't make me ignorant.

Get you head out of the sand and smell the smell of twin towers burning!

The US does not "meddle" They take the steps they deem neccessary to protect the lives and livelihoods of their citizens, and often in so doing save and protect the lives of oppressed and persecuted peoples!

The US can buy whatever it wants. they don't need to take countries over. They have given freedom to millions the world over.

If not for the US, the bloody French would still be under Hitler's Jackboot, or would be Stalin's slaves, same with the damn Germans and Belgians and all the other cowards of old Europe.

I agree with their boycotting the french bastards who seem to forget or ignore what lies below the countless white crosses on the shores of Normandy. I wouldn't take french wine if you gave it to me. It deserves to be flushed.

Without the United States, this world would be a living hell under the likes of Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Idi Amin and others of that ilk.

Tweak, your ignorance is appalling. I can't believe I am deigning to reply. But you need to be corrected. Do you realize that without the United States of America, the world would be in chaos?? From what basis do you speak on "others" behalf?? Another thing. You say the U.S. acts like a "world police". I'd like to point out that in American foreign policy, the United State's main goal is to protect the United States. You call it meddling in foreign affairs, but the American government has a responsibility to protect it's citizens. Which is why we went to war with Iraq. Take a look at the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Without the U.S., the peace-making process would have never been where it is now. Without the U.S., Asia probably would've been a communist continent! It is the United States that steps in, but only when necessary, to preserve peace to protect it's citizens.

Hah. Neal and djpark, both of you say America do what necessary to protect citizens. I say America use that excuse for economic and military advantage. I know America went to war with Iraq for oil. Saddam was never threat to America. America has many nuclear warheads. Why war? Oil. Why war in Asia during the Cold War? Geostrategic advantage. America seems to have cleverly used the excuse of "national security" and "right to protect citizens" to gain selfishly.

The biggest winners in the Iraq war were the majority of Iraqi citizens who lived in abject terror for 35 years watching friends and loved ones being taken away in the middle of the night to be tortured or killed, oftentimes for not yelling loud enough at state organized demonstrations, or even for no reason at all, just to make an example.

That regime slaughtered hundreds of thousands of its own citizens.

They also have proven that they will attack neighbouring countries. They did it twice, unprovoked (Iran and Kuwait)

Back to my original point on Liberia. Why U.S. enter Liberia only when crisis over? I hear 800,000 Liberians massacred in civil war. I hear horrible tales of Charle's Taylor prison. Gruesome, what they did in there I know. Why U.S. wait so long and enter only when Charle's Taylor leave?

The oil argument has been repeatedly debunked. French oil interests were well served by Saddam's regime, hence their fear of his overthrow, and the US will have to wait decades for the cost of the war and investment in Iraqi rebuilding to pay off... if they were even set out to exploit Iraq, which they aren't.

It's also interesting to note that on the day the war began, the number of Iraqi citizens being killed each day (on average) dropped by between 50 and 75%, and continued at that lower level throughout the war. The conclusion was obvious: even with the fighting at it's heaviest, even with Iraqi civilians being caught in the crossfire, less Iraqis were being killed. It's a sorry situation for the Ba'athists when war and invasion actually improve the life expectancy of Iraqis.

Tweak/LiberalDem, whichever one you choose to call yourself, your arguments are naive and uninformed. I suggest you spend some time perusing this forum as I've already spent a lot of effort citing facts, figures and expert opinion debunking precisely the sort of lefist twaddle you're coming up with again.

Oh, BTW, "America acting selfishly"... please go find a decent history book, go to the index and look up the "Marshall Plan." Then go and look up "Comecon." I already know what you're going to find but it's important that you discover this information yourself. Then you can allow the light of reason to dispel the darkness of your leftist ignorance.

Liberia? First you are angry that the US intervenes overseas, then you are angry that it doesn't? Make up your mind what your point is before you post it, please.

1) United States not directly threatened by Liberia or Taylor. Nor were they funding terrorists.

2) US troops going in as peacekeeper

3) To protect the lives of all, and to reduce the possibility of walking into a hornets nest, a de-facto ceasefire had to be in place, as well as the leader of one side had to be castrated figuratively so he coule not be a rallying point.

Just because U.S. is not directly threatened by Liberia, they let thousands of people die I see. US Troops going in as peacekeeper?? Nigerian peacekeeper already there. U.S. just there to maintain "police" status and show others America "cares". As to your third point, if U.S. is such humane nation, regardless of it's own casualties, it need to help other nations. I see U.S. contradicting.

Cut out the childish behaviour, Tweak124. You haven't even been here a week and you've completely alienated yourself.

Check the Rules and Guidelines, they clearly state,

NO TROLLING/FLAMING

Don't make posts that are inflammatory just to annoy people. If you are not bringing anything new to the argument, then don't say anything at all.

Some messages aren't so much offensive as simply nuisance value. An example would be a person who persistently creates conflict without contributing anything useful. In newsgroup circles, such a person is known as a "troll". We define "trolling" as a message that serves no constructive purpose and is likely to cause offence or arguments. We define "annoying" as any message that results in a complaint from a registered user -- we will then decide whether or not to take action.

Wow. Talk about being ruffled up. The United States of America is the Greatest Nation on earth because the people who lived here came here to work hard and to make it that way. Do you think it's because we got lucky or discovered some secret to allow us to be more successful? No, it's hard work. It's a system that was set up to be fair and equal. I can't believe you would wish innocent people to die for no reason. The United States has saved the world more than once(WW1 and WW2 are two good examples) and is very quick to offer aid and money to almost any nation in need without expecting retribution(which we NEVER get)....The USA has been around for over 200 years and will be here long after we're all gone.

Liberia was just a 30 second PR stunt to make up for the historical immoral actions in AFganistan, Iraq, and Iran, and now for the big lie abour iraq being a WMD threat. put some marines off the coast and it makes up for buying oil from dictators, supporting terrorists in training, and leaving entires nations to be raped after your attention is lost.

i'd be more impressed if there were 100,000 trooops still in afganistan killing taliba/alqueda terrorists.

And what is your justification for that assertion?
