  1. The key numbers in the poll were from Ontario. With the Libs and the Cons tied at 38% in Ontario this actually translates out to more seats for the Cons then the Liberals will get. This is due to the Conservative vote having a higher concentration in the more rural, less populated ridings. Last election Libs received 45% to the Cons 32% and the Cons still got 24 seats. Another 6% will push them over the top in quite a few ridings. Coupled with a loss in seats for the Libs in Quebec I imagine Mr Martin is not too happy these days.
  2. So the concept of this thread is that you take a single natural resource and appropriate the taxes on it? Based on the fact that it has a higher value right now? And the fact that Ontario has little or none of the said resource doesn't mean anything, its all just a coincidence. If you're going to appropriate resources you might as well go for all of them. The whole enchilada, hmmm, everything. Cause if its legal to do it to oil, might as well do it to diamonds and potash and gold, and platinum. Grab it all.
  3. Lets fix the problem of global warmin on MArs too, while we're at it. Global Warming on Mars? So how is it that all the evil capitalists driving SUV's that is creating all the CO2 that is overheating our planet, um, how is it causing Mars to overheat too?
  4. Hey what's the CBC going to do? They are going to lose 99% of their advertising revenue. And they'll have to fill the entire Saturday night time slot with something. I suggest: Don Cherry's Celebrity Boxing. Watch Don go one on one with your favorite celebrities, starting with Don Maclean. followed by: Al-Jazeera in Prime Time. The CRTC already approved them for Canadian viewing after denying Fox news as being to "unCanadian". Show lots of generic violence and threats against Americans. Then it occured to me. The perfect solution. It's my idea, I claim ownership of it. The CBC should pay me a huge giant royalty for it. This will revolutionize the sports world. Cut and paste old snippets of previous games and splice together brand new ones. Most of the drunk hosers would never know the difference and you wouldn't even have to pay any of the players. Plus you could make Toronto win every night on the English Channel and Montreal win every night on the French Channel. Then they could play each other for the Stanley cup. Every game could go into double quadruple overtime in a new best of 28 playoff series. And Toronto could win the cup on the English cannel and Montreal win it on the French channel after a marathon 34 period final game
  5. Well not sinking money into the gun registry, paying off all of their adscam buddies, regional subsidies, and curtailing corporate welfare is a start. 58 billion over 5 years is about 10 billion a year. The economy is growing. Giving people back money will let them spend it on goods and services which will stimulate the economy. Besides how many Billions has Martin already pi##ed away since the budget? And Layton is promising the world because he knows he never will have to deliver on his promises. Look at Harpers budget that they just released at Conservative Budget and see what numbers don't add up. That would be better than just guessing.
  6. A few thoughts from a different angle. 1. It's considered an illegal substance by the United Nations. Now I am not big on the UN, but it is a world body that is trying to deal with this stuff. 2. I am not aware of any methods that the police can use to detect marijuana impairedness. An equivelant to the breathalizer. People shouldn't be driving, flying, operating, teaching, etc stoned. And there is no legal method to determine this short of blood tests or other invasive tests that can be refused by the subject. And what about combinations of drugs. .08 alchohol + how much THC means impairment? 3. Some countries shoot people for selling a joint. Yet we are telling our people its ok to do that. Big big difference here. On our side of the line do whatever you want. On their side of the line you get shot in a firing line. Do you think any of our little stoners will ever take a holiday and forget this little point? 4. Crossing the border into the US. They take this stuff pretty seriously down there. If they find one seed in your car they can confiscate your car and any other property they feel like and toss you in jail. Ask Tommy Chong about that some time. I can see the day that the stoner gets out of the American jail and then procedes to sue the Canadian government for $400 million for not protecting him or some other equally stupid reason. 5. How can you make end user consumption legal but leave cultivation/importing/distribution illegal? It makes no sense. You're just giving an incentive for people to perform illegal acts. If you just make it all legal then the consequences could be very dire. Every criminal organization in the world would move to Canada and make it their base of operations. 6. Quality control. I've seen all sorts of sick stuff being laced into marijuana. How do you know what exactly is in that reefer? By having the authorities condone the action or legalize it, what sort of liability is the government incurring if some poor stoner gets his brain fried? So the government ends up regulating it and you end up with the garbage being grown in Flin Flon that nobody wants anyways.
  7. I am confused by the posting rules on this board. If I post a statistic I am admonished if I don't supply a quote. If I post a quote I am admonished that I am violating copyright policy by displaying the quote. I appreciate the fact that I am usually privately informed of breaking the rules (usually) but I have discarded more than a few replies because I don't know if I will return only to find private messages and/or public admonishments for my posts. And some folks here seem more interested in putting down the posters more than discussing their ideas.
  8. I've been polled 3 times in the last two weeks, I must be lucky or something. I said I'd vote Liberal each time. Can't wait to stick it to Martin...
  9. There's no way the current panel could ever get results. Lets see, theres a Liberal dominated panel interviewing Liberals. Any question asked is answered by one of the following: 1. I don't remember. 2. I don't know 3. I didn't do it. 4. Its the auditor generals fault. The only reason Paul setup the panel was to distract everyone until he calls an election. Once its called the panel gets dissolved anyhow. A better solution would be to punt the Liberals from office and sort it out later when they are no longer in power.
  10. Paul Martin gets my vote Anne missed first place by .000000000000001
  11. Well lets see..... The Greens say that the NDP didn't do anything to protect the environment when they are in power in various provincial governments. In fact they call the NDP their enemy and are part of the same problem as the other parties. The Bloc are commited to leaving Canada. This is their only policy. I don't think it would mix to well wtih whatever the NDP's policies are. Now with five fingered Sven, homoklepto of the radical left leaving the party and Jack "Donut" Layton moving them more to the center and offering to jump in bed as Martin's lackey in a minority governmet.... Why don't the NDP just merge with the Liberals?
  12. Amazingly enough he was charged, and had a trial. Svend made sure he wouldn't have to go through with something as dumb as that. And Campbell didn't go on national TV with news conferences crying big old crocodile tears armed with a well crafted 6 day old confession letter written by a half a dozen staffers and blaming his past for his crimes. I am amazed that Sven didn't lump in all of us homophobes as the main cause for him STEALING the ring.
  13. I guess its a matter of interpretation. I certainly didn't read that he quit, that he resigned his position.
  14. I am not sure what I can post here regarding what is or isn't copyright violitions, but here's the link: NDP moral crusader Svend Robinson has spectacular fall from grace Here's the snippet: This was in the first year he was elected to parliament. How much compassion and mercy was he giving to Richard Grise? Now his career has come full circle and he is in the other man's shoes.
  15. Mayplesyrup you were much more enjoyable when you were hyping Belinda. Why don't you hype Jack the same way?
