I liked Liberal Dion in the position...when Martin gave my Liberal MP Lucienne Robilliard the position I forgot it existed... I wouldn't mind Verner in that spot either, but I had no where else to stick Clement. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --
August1991 Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 I don't think Jean-Pierre Blackburn will be given a "minor position". I doubt Rona Ambrose will go to External after she spent so much time working on the child care policy. I wouldn't be surprised if Bernier gets Finance. The Speaker will be a Liberal, likely Millken. (This will ensure that the Tories will have a bare majority with the NDP and Arthur. IOW, Harper will be able to get legislation thorugh with either the BQ, the Liberals or the NDP.) All in all though, I agree with your choice of names. Harper has some good talent to choose from. I don't see a Sinclair Stevens in the bunch. ---- The position of "deputy prime minister" is new, and I'm not certain Harper will have one. Harper's concerned more about substance than style. The Liberals got into the same business as the banks - appointing scads of V-Ps and exceutive V-Ps - title inflation. I wouldn't be surprised if Harper changed some of the titles, and had a smaller cabinet. Clark had an inner and outer cabinet, and Trudeau had a "policy and planning committee". Quote
Canuck E Stan Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Ambassador to U.S.? ...............Preston Manning? Quote "Any man under 30 who is not a liberal has no heart, and any man over 30 who is not a conservative has no brains." — Winston Churchill
fellowtraveller Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 The Speaker will be a Liberal, likely Millken. (This will ensure that the Tories will have a bare majority with the NDP and Arthur. IOW, Harper will be able to get legislation thorugh with either the BQ, the Liberals or the NDP.) Not quite. Looks like Brian Palister, Mantoba Tory MP, may quit to run for Mantoba Tory leader. That will leave the total at 123+29+1=153 , at least until a byelection.story Pallister had 70% of the popular vote, and a 20,000+ margin, so the Tories could run a fencepost and still win a byelection. Rona Ambrose is seriously babelicious, she can be Minister of Looking Good. Preston Manning would be a great pick for Ambassador to the US. I cannot think of a better one. Quote The government should do something.
shoop Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 There are a few names that I don't think will make the final cut, but overall a good list. Can't see Ambrose getting Foreign Affairs, although she will likely get a spot of some kind... Quote
shoop Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Anybody else got an opinion? Tomorrow being the big day and all.... Quote
SamStranger Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 I heard that Brampton-Springdale candidate Sam Hundal might be the foreign affairs minister. Quote "They say that lifes a carousel, spinning fast you got to ride it well. The world is full of Kings and Queens who blind your eyes then steal your dreams- it's heaven and hell. And they will tell you black is really white, the moon is just the sun at night, and when you walk in golden halls you get to keep the gold that falls- its heaven and hell" -Ronnie James Dio
shoop Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Is there something I am missing with this one? Why would a defeated candidate, from a province with tons of cabinet worthy MPs, get a posting? I heard that Brampton-Springdale candidate Sam Hundal might be the foreign affairs minister. Quote
