I think this phenomenon is true regardless of where one places himself on the political spectrum.

A similar sentiment keeps supporters of People's Party of Canada (link: https://www.peoplespartyofcanada.ca/) from voting for their preferred candidates.  People tell them, if you split the conservative vote, then Trudeau's party will win!  And I think this argument severely harms PPC's electoral success.
