Back to the topic,

It is probably not all that relevant that Johnson is religious. It will only come up when a bill directly affects freedom of religion. As long as they keep it out of schools, I usually side with freedom of religion. For instance, in my hometown of Boise, we have a 10 commandments statue/exhibit near the main public library. I have no problem with it and would vote to have it stay there. Also, to the Northeast of town on a plateau named Table Rock, we have a large cross. There was a ballot initiative to have it removed. Guess what? I voted to have it remain there. Also, I was part of the march to have it remain untouched. Why? It does not affect one's daily life at all. It is a decoration upon a hill, if you do not like it then do not look at it.

It's not relevant until he makes it relevant.

People can believe whatever crazy shit they want about the metaphysical and it'll do no harm to anyone. But it's a problem when they try to turn their crazy beliefs into laws that govern the rest of us. Their freedom ends where someone else's freedom begins.

There are lots of religious people in government who understand that and behave accordingly, allowing freedom of and from religion for all.

Fundies--of all faiths--typically can't respect the distinction of personal faith. Now that Johnson is in the spotlight for the first time, it looks as if he falls into that camp. It appears that, at every opportunity, he's opted to turn his religious beliefs into law. That's why it's a topic of conversation. He's made it relevant.
