I have been looking for this function, but could not find it. 

How do I delete an account?

Likely will just take time away and be back soon. Deletion just makes it easier (to stay away), but either or works. 

I love debating (I come from an era where debates were heated but always respectful), but have hands full so don't need distractions now.

The rule has since been revised...

Accounts can now be deleted, all that you need to do is request an account deletion using the same email as you registered with. Send requests to [email protected]

If you delete your account, all postings, etc will be deleted, along with any account related information (profile photos, personal messages, etc).

There is no reversing this decision, so please be certain this is what you want.
