The university told The Canadian Press that it had received $550,000 to create scholarships on behalf of the two businessmen. So this is in fact one of the more popular ways for politicians and select others to make a crap tonne of money when in office without showing that they're making any money. You create a charity. When someone wants to bribe you, they donate to your charity. Now YOU don't take any money from the charity when you're in office. But you use money to grow the charity and everyone "knows" a donation to the charity will mean you are more likely to get what you want from the person you're dealing with at the gov't. Then when your term in office is finished, you become a director of the charity and take a 'stipend' of a few million a year to run the board and the charity. Which basically involves giving money to people who suck up to you enough to look good to a peer group. And i love that trudeau's defense is that the allegations are 'unfounded'. NO - they are accurate, the charity admitted it and returned the money it doesn't get more 'founded' than that Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

Choose a charity that was started several years ago by a ten-year-old kid, that was his life's dream and he achieved it completely on his own. Then run it into the ground in less than two years, by creating a government scandal. Then, it's gone. Now THAT's what you call "Good government work". Edited April 12, 2023 by OftenWrong 1 Quote

(looking at you bill clinton). He had the nerve to be pulling 25 mill a year from their charity while she was still in office and foreign nations were donating to it that she was dealing with. In any case, turns out there's a lot of money to be made from poverty. Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

To me, every "foundation" is corrupt and only there to line the pockets of a select few. Ya gotta wonder how politicians become millionaires if their only income has been public service pay. True, I would argue the NP's story does that but you're right, La Presse made the claim and they should back it up. 1 Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

The press/media bun fight that who can make the most accepted suggestion seems to be the game now. No proof needed, just announcements/suggestions/questionable statements win. 1 Quote Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.

It used to be 'if it bleeds it leads" but now it's more of "If someone say, we print anyway" 1 Quote There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data
