As the Conservatives claw their way to a steady lead in public opinion polls, a stubborn trend is beginning to show itself in the survey data: Canadian women and men are increasingly at odds over who they think should run the government.

 

If only men voted in the next election, the Conservatives would skip to an easy majority. If only women voted, Canada could potentially be swearing in history’s first NDP minority.

 

In a March 16 Angus Reid Institute poll, the Conservatives were the clear favourite across every single category of Canadian men. Even among under-34 males — a group that has reliably leaned NDP since the 1990s — an incredible 40 per cent expressed an intention to vote Tory.

 

Among under-35 women, the gender gap couldn’t be more pronounced: 44 per cent intended to vote for the NDP, 21 per cent wanted to stick with the Liberals and 20 per cent wanted the Conservatives.

Is this really about the hair? I get that he's sexier than Pollievre. But surely even women can't approve of the corruption and the inflation and all that. Surely they care about their children if nothing else and teh future they're going to have - or not going to have thanks to Justin's policies. They can't be THAT obvious - what is making them think like this? How can they still think justin is ok?

Our inflation should be about 2 percent lower than it is. That's a big deal . Interest rates would be MUCH lower if the feds had worked WITH the banks instead of increasing spending while the banks are desperately trying to slow it down.

You have to be 7 kinds of stupid not to realize that things economically are far worse because of Trudeau. Even the banks and budget officers admit his policies have added a minimum of 1.5 percent inflation.

Obviously men get it - they realize Trudeau is a bad person and is also responsible for the economic issues we face largely.

What does it take to make women realize that they're throwing away their future and the future of their kids leaving that corrupt incompetent loser in power?

All the women I know think Trudeau is an arrogant narcissist, except for one, she has a  Liberal arts degree and works as a greeter at Walmart. Don't know if that's the trend.

And no - i didn't blame trudeau for world inflation, I blamed him for canada's inflation. It was YOU who tried to dismiss his mishandling of the economy and infliation as just being 'world inflation'.  But - there IS no 'world inflation' - most of the countries on that graph are below us. Some are experiencing very average inflation.   SOME countries also made bad decisions with money and are experiencing higher inflation and some are more affected directly by war (germany).  But - many made better choices and are not.

And i get you want to stop the thread because you're a liberal supporter and his unpopularity is uncomfortable for you but - you don't have to watch the thread if you don't want to.

Hard to say. I have to admit that most of the women i talk to feel the same but this polling data suggests otherwise. Of course it does differ a little between provinces. And age groups.

I'm just curious as to why the gap is this big. Historically there's often a SMALL gap between men and women regarding a specific leader, but it's usually pretty small. More like a 'margin of error' size so to speak. This is pretty significant.  LIke the headline said - women would probably reelect him, where men would vote him out in droves and give the cpc a majority. That's a big gap.

I think most women vote by how they "feel". Nothing wrong with that but Trudeau is good at manipulating feelings.

Fair point. Perhaps that really is the difference.  There used to be a saying that men vote on the candidates handshake and women vote on his smile.
