kimmy Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 I dunno if this is appropriate or allowed. But happy thanksgiving from the southern US. What we in Canada call Thanksgiving is what Americans call Columbus Day. What Americans call Thanksgiving is what we in Canada call "Thursday". But Happy Thanksgiving to you. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
theloniusfleabag Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Dear moderateamericain, Happy Thanksgiving to you. Interestingly, Thanksgiving Day in the US was moved in 1938 to extend Christmas shopping hours. From "The People's Chronology", By James Trager (1992) pg 859 "Thanksgiving Day is celebrated November 23-the fourth Thursday in the month rather than the last. Federated Department Stores chief Fred Lazarus. Jr, has persuaded President Roosevelt that a longer Christmas shopping season will help the economy, the president has issued a proclamation, and within a few years most states will pass laws making November's fourth Thursday Thanksgiving Day" Quote Would the Special Olympics Committee disqualify kids born with flippers from the swimming events?
sharkman Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 I'm afraid I have no factoids on Thanksgiving or Canada's version of it, just a dittohead's warm and hearty HAPPY THANKSGIVING! May the next 12 months give you much to be thankful for. Quote
