U.S. Democrats won 2 out of 2 races for governor in New Jersey and Virginia (!!!)

What does this say for Americans and their current opinions on Bush's government?

Aren't those states solidly democrat as it is?

NJ yes but I always thought Virginia was conservative...

I understand in both states they voted democrat back in 2001 when Bush had much better approval ratings, so it's no surprise that they'd go dem now.

Except the media's in shock and awe over it, but that's no surprise.

The surprise came in Virginia where the Republican was leading all along until Bush campaign for him, then he lost by a wide margin (apparently in 2001 the Democrats were popular all along).

The Republicans are in some trouble in the States. Bush has floundered all year, Iraq is becoming more of a concern, the administration was hammered on Katrina, and the scandal is hurting the White House. The GOP will lose seats in the Senate but probably won't lose control, whereas there is an outside shot the Democrats could re-take the House - that is, if the Dems could exhibit any competence.

Montgomery is correct about Virgina. However, Virginia is a solid GOP state, and the results should not be discounted. The Dems would be smart, BTW, to look at the outgoing governor of Virginia, Mark Warner, as a candidate in 2008.

Wall Street Journal poll: Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld (but not Condi Rice) numbers are low--but Democrat approval ratings are even lower

Yeah, I know it is only a poll, but the Democrat numbers (25% approval rating) make sense. Let's face it. The Democrats (except for Joe Lieberman) offer no alternative, they just whine, lie, and do everything they can to undermine the war effort.

thats why what you need is a moderate conservative. John mccain for example. truthfully the Dems dont reallly have a really great candidate.
