DogOnPorch
A catchall for all things Viet-Nam. A very colourful war with numerous distinct stages as it proceeded. Early...we had the Japanese and then the French vs the Viet Minh (proto-NVA)...later the Americans and SEATO Allies...Australia, South Korea, Thailand, New Zealand and such. All in all, about 20 years of non-stop conflict. Here's a typical activity early in the war...training ARVN....Army of the Republic of Vietnam. Not very good soldiers overall. Only the Rangers and similar groups were effective. However, ARVN formations handled the bulk of the defense and were prime targets for the Viet-Cong and NVA alike. So lots of action... Guest
I have the Ten Thousand Day War somewhere. I also have this, which I enjoy dipping into every now and then. I remember reading Dispatches when it first came out, and enjoying that. I no longer have a copy though.
DogOnPorch
The Vietnam Reader looks good. Going to look for it. A old boss of mine flew the F-105 in Viet-Nam and the F-106 in the National Guard...so I heard plenty of tales about the air war. The F-105 was a very odd aircraft. One of the few back then that could go supersonic at sea level in 100 degree heat with a full load of bombs. Couldn't turn worth a darn, though.

DogOnPorch
Operation Desoto January 27th to April 7th 1967 This was typical of US & ARVN operations pre-Tet Offensive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Desoto The Marines move into the Duc Pho Base Camp (Nui Dang) to attempt to pacify the region of VC and NVA activity. Almost daily action is seen for the next several months. The casualties were gawd awful....76 dead Marines and over 500 WIA. The Communists lost at least 383...the number of KIA recovered post-battle(s). Untold wounded. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Đức_Phổ_Base_Camp One of those body count things...
