-TSS- Posted September 5, 2020 Report Posted September 5, 2020 The former Australian PM Bob Hawke said something along the lines that if they played cricket in China and Russia the world would be a more peaceful place. I guess he meant that they would be more civilised not to wage wars having learned the game but you could also understand the statement so that they would fall asleep watching something so long-winding and boring that they couldn't go to war because they would be sleeping. They can cheer their sports team in their mock wars with other cities and divert their nationalistic and tribal energies into that in a way the nose-in-the-air scolders of society can leave them alone about. Mostly. Seen kids sports lately? Not now of course, but lately. Nobody loses or wins. No score is kept, no player stats. Everyone's a winner! Quote
