August1991 Posted February 19, 2020 Report Posted February 19, 2020 (edited) I have wondered about this comparison. Many people believe that Big Tobacco, with its money and advertising - 1960s style, delayed the obvious connection between cigarettes and cancer. Nowadays, many people believe that Big Oil, with its money and advertising - 2020s style, are delaying the obvious connection between carbon and climate change. Carbon? In fact. it is CO2 - Carbon Dioxide. Climate change? In fact, it is global warming. And to me, that is the tip that Oil is nothing like Tobacco. ==== What's the critical thinking phrase modern teachers use? "Correlation != Causation" "Just because you arrived at 10 am and the guy died at 10 am, it doesn't mean you are guilty. You were in Los Angeles and he died in New York." Michael Hardner Posted February 19, 2020 Report Posted February 19, 2020 Well they aren't the same thing but they represent the same kind of challenge. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner
Dorian Posted May 12, 2020 Report Posted May 12, 2020 It seems to me that few people think that many industries affect the climate. Quote
