I like HRH Prince of Wales.  He gets a bad rap, he's actually a very interesting fellow and I like an interventionist monarch.

I loves me some HRH Commando and his lovely wife too.

It's not about mystique, it's about doing the job.  

Flew the Apache in battle,  married an American woman of the people, what's not to love?

She commands respect, HM loves her, so do the people, it's only Fleet Street which is attacking her.

Likes got nothing to do with it.  I've yet to see a royal I disliked. 

That said, the more like the rest of us they become, the less likely they are going to be allowed to live off our largesse.

Certainly Elizabeth will see out her reign, and I daresay Charles will too.  I would lay money that William will be the last one to do so.

I'll be dead by then and won't be able to claim my winnings, so no actual bets.

I'm not anti monarchist myself.  I just don't see a role for them in the future.

I'd take that bet.  George will be King and successors too; George V The Peoples King, heir to the throne of.

Things don't actually change as much as you apparently surmise, the Firm is ever evolving with the times.

And this, folks, is why all attempts to reform the Senate in a structural sense are a fool's errand.

Canada is not a republic and it never will be.

The British Crown is the DNA. 

The only thing you can do is elect Prime Ministers who will choose better Senators and then let those Senators do their jobs.
