I don't! How come that is the default argument for someone who doesn't want to acknowledge that some criticism is justified? We don't have those laws in Canada. Not relevant. I wasn't talking about Canada. Some religions excommunicate or uninvite people. Good. That's not a legal matter. Still, what do you think of the Muslims I don't like? We all agree about the Muslim's I don't dislike. When I read your comments I think how they would affect Muslim people in my community. In our schools, all children are taught and practice acceptance and respect regardless of differences. You don't show the respect that our school children do. Muslims in Canada have a right to live in peace without being dehumanized by people smearing them because of their religion or their clothing. You're not doing a very good job of distinguishing between people and their religion. I won't discuss their religion because I have no interest in any religions. But people must be able to practice their religion freely in Canada within the law, and without people smearing all of them - inciting hatred against them - because of their religion. Your initial comments dehumanized all Muslims because of the actions of some extremists. That's not acceptable. Words are important. Choose them carefully. 1 Quote

jacee Posted April 25, 2019 Author Report Posted April 25, 2019 THREAD DRIFT ALERT: This topic is not about Muslims. Wherever they were born, St George and his parents were Christians. I apologize for getting caught up in the derailing. There is nothing more to be discussed here. Perhaps Charles Anthony will consider closing the thread? Quote

Your initial comments dehumanized all Muslims because of the actions of some extremists. That's not acceptable. Words are important. Choose them carefully. I wasn't talking about extremists. Which extremists did you think I was talking about? I was talking about Islam, the religion, and how much contempt I have for those of its adherents who are contemptible. It's like when you say you don't like white supremacists. I'm white, but I don't take offence. I don't like them either. The only people who have to distinguish between people and their religion are the people themselves. Either they adhere to the barbaric bits, and are deserving of my contempt, and my words, or they don't. In which case I don't care about them. Any more I do any other deluded people whose beliefs don't affect anyone else. Your whole post is of the "blaming all Muslims" variety because you don't have an answer to my specific comments. I do choose my words carefully. In fact, I try very hard to be reasonable, and not allow posters such as yourself to use the "blaming all Muslims" argument. Obviously it doesn't always work. I agree it's off topic. We probably should talk about St. George, bless him. So much less annoying than St. Patrick. But one more question: How do your schoolchildren deal with the dichotomy of respecting all people regardless of differences, and also respecting religions (Any and all of them) who absolutely do not respect all people. Hate and oppress some of them, in fact! Teacher's nightmare, eh? Edited April 25, 2019 by bcsapper Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction. Teachers don't teach the content of religions and we don't have to respect the content of anyone's religion (eg, I think all religions are stupid.). But we do have to refrain from discriminating and inciting hatred against people because of their religion. You can't smear all Muslims in Canada because of the actions of some extremists elsewhere who claim that religion. These are fine distinctions, I know, but important in a civilized society and important in law in Canada. And this thread is doomed ... Edited April 25, 2019 by jacee Quote

I would never incite violence, but hatred is in the eye of the incitee. You simply don't know what someone else is going to do. I think the truth is the most important thing, and telling the truth should never be restricted. I think teachers should tell the truth about religions. Charles must be on holiday.
