What do Toronto and Penticton have in common?

Recommended Posts

The "Tastes of Thailand" festival invited Toronto's own Natalie Glebova to open their event, only to discover that... Miss Universe is not welcome in Nathan Phillips Square.

"Activities which degrade men or women through sexual stereotyping, or exploit the bodies of men, women, boys or girls solely for the purpose of attracting attention, are not permitted on Nathan Phillips Square."

Personally, I think it's awesome. We are bridging the cultural divide! For ages, it seemed like the Bible-Belt & Burqas types had nothing in common with free-thinking urban sophisticates. But hark! Common ground emerges, wearing a sash and a tiara. The PC whingers and the frowning religious grumps can at least agree that young women, and perhaps all of society, need to be protected.

I feel safer already.

With no Miss Universe in Nathan Philips square  I suppose that means  Toronto won't have those sexually exploitive bare ass Gay Parades  anymore? Or is that different?

No uptight, busybody Toronto bureacrat would dare complain about the gay rights parade. Likewise, anyone seen any of the costumes worn at Caribana? But I guess there aren't that many Thais so they feel comfortable expressing their indignation at sexism there.

This isn't really anything new. The bible thumpers and the anti-sexism crowd have been bossum buddies (so to speak) for years on the pornography issue - except for gay pornography, which the leftists can't bring themselves to complain about.

Neither of those things come even remotely close to Nathan Phillips Square or they would have the same issues..... I am sure some intolerant person would make it a problem for sure if they did, after all we're talking Gays and Coloured people right!!!!

Apparently offended at being compared to goody two-shoes Toronto... Penticton Strikes Back!

Women spin wheel to win breast implants

ha! So much for people thinking of bible-clutching, fig-leaf wielding prudes when they think of Penticton!

elderly churchgoers in this Okanagan Valley city did their bit to change the minds of 36 contestants in the controversial competition.

Mildred Wakefield and her Holiness Bible Movement supporters sang out to Jesus, beat a drum and danced on the sidewalk across from the Element Nightclub.

Well, maybe not.
"We need to show these young girls there's something better out there for them, they don't need to be exploiting their sexuality," said Wakefield. "Why don't they come sing with us?"
Well, Milly, maybe they just didn't know the words to Kumbaya.

That said, Mildred might have a point. Look at the photo of the contest winner. She's beautiful! I don't think she needs implants. Do you think she needs implants? It sounds like the men at the club were puzzled too...

Men at the club were astounded at the competition.

"They're all so beautiful. Every single one of the contestants is really good-looking. I don't get it," said Steve Jones, 32, who was visiting from Calgary.

"Natural is so much better. I want to tell all these girls, 'don't do it!' "

But the contest winner, Tiffany Friesen, disagrees.

Freisen, a slim, tanned woman from Fort St. John, said her good looks aren't enough for her.

"I was born really unlucky with this one part of my body. I've been wanting implants for five years and winning this is so amazing because I just recently went to a consultation. It's going to be great," said Freisen.

I don't actually have a problem with women getting breast implants. I wouldn't do it, but I can understand that for some people their self-esteem could be helped immensely. Having said that, you have to wonder where things are headed when a woman as attractive as Ms. Friesen is convinced that her body needs fixing.

Mildred Wakefield and her Holiness Bible Movement

Oh come ooooon. Mildred? Is it foreodained that anyone given a name like Mildred would lead a holy roller group? Or is this just made up? Is she a virginal librarian too?

I'm sure she'll look much cuter with monster boobs.

When I heard of the story, I instantly thought: Leftwing-feminists.

Although, it is surprising how much in common Islamo/Christian-fascists have in common in with feminist friends...this one incident being a good example.

It was simply over the top.

Although, if I were a Torontonian, I'd be concerned over the performance of city hall. Losing the Live-8 to...I can't remember who got it (lol)...and now this....

Nonetheless a showdown between Wakefield, her band and the contestants was prevented by the gospel singers' early bed time. They packed it in long before the club got jumping at around midnight Saturday as about 100 people took in the competition.

:lol::lol::lol:

"We will fight evil, wherever it may found, day and night, as long as it doesn't stay up past 9:30 PM."

Hilarious.

Obviously their moral superiority does not extend into the late evening.

I don't know what this post has to do with Penticton or Toronto but I think my point is valid, even if it's in the wrong thread.

TalkNumb, you refer to "Islamo/Christian-fascists".

IMV, the term "fascist" is thrown around too loosely.

I am not aware of any Christian suicide bombers. I don't know of any Christians who encourage people with Down's syndrome to commit suicide for political purposes.

IMV, the term "fundamentalist" is thrown around loosely too. I see a large difference between Christian fundamentalists and Islamic fundamentalists.

----

Do I need to add this?

The Muslim guys who flew those planes into those tall buildings in New York City deliberately killed many innocent people (committing suicide in the process).

(BTW, the Muslim guys did that before the US or UK had sent troups to Iraq.)

I am not aware of any UK or US soldiers who commit suicide by killing in addition as many randomly chosen people as possible.

IOW, please stop this generic equivalence of Islam and Christianity. There are some six billion people in the world. Each individual is different.

Let us be clear.

There is no justification for suicide bombing whether in Palestine, in Iraq, in London, in Egypt, in Turkey, anywhere, in the United States of America. There is no justification for it period and we will start to beat this when we stand up and confront the ideology of this evil. Not just the methods but the ideas. When we actually have people going into the communities here in this country and elsewhere and saying I am sorry, we are not having any of this nonsense about it is to do with what the British are doing in Iraq or Afghanistan, or support for Israel, or support for America, or any of the rest of it. It is nonsense, and we have got to confront it as that. And when we confront it as that, then we will start to beat it.
