takeanumber Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 Cadman voted Yea. Budget Passes. Reactions? Mine: lol. Quote
Newfie Canadian Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 There were reports that Cadman was going to vote with for the budget, and he did. The last I heard, about 2/3 of his constituents didn't want an election. I didn't think much of the comments from Martin in the House after the vote, saying there was confidence in the government. That was arrogant. I didn't think much of Harper's comments either, as there didn't seem to be any commitment to cooperate, which he promised to do if they lost the vote. In regards to the budget itself, the only thing I didn't like was the Defence spending. I thought there could have been more. Bro Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 My reaction, there are 152 poeple in the parliament who don't approve of a political party stealing money from taxpayers, and there 153 who do.There are 152 members with a resolution to rid corruption from within the halls of parliament, good luck to them. Bakunin Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 first reaction, belinda stronach gave the victory to the libranos. second reaction, now whats next ? Should harper resign, should the conservative attemp to gain back its progressive base ? Duceppe is skyrocketing in the poll since the sponsorship scandal, whats wrong with harper, why can't he use the scandal and the political situation to promote and convince canadian like duceppe convinced the quebeckers ? I Miss Trudeau Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 second reaction, now whats next ? Should harper resign, should the conservative attemp to gain back its progressive base ? first reaction, belinda stronach gave the victory to the libranos. Harper's inability to run a big tent party gave the victory to the Liberals. second reaction, now whats next ? I hope Harper continues to run the party into the ground. Ultimatly, though, the party should turn on him like a pack of wolves for painting them into a corner to die in, against the wishes of the elctorate, no less. Should harper resign No, he should be lynched. should the conservative attemp to gain back its progressive base ? Probably a good idea. Quote Feminism.. the new face of female oppression!
Guest eureka Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 My reaction is to wonder how we now prevent the Bloc and Conservatives from continuing to obstruct implementation of the Budget. Much of it will come before the House in the form of Supplementary Bills over the next year or so:t hat includes the NDP add on. All those Bills will be opportunities for "Confidence" votes. My personal wish is that after getting the basic parts through, which includes the Atlantic Accords, the opposition does continue like it has. The we will see an election where the Bloc and the Conservatives will be decimated. Quote
takeanumber Posted May 20, 2005 Author Report Posted May 20, 2005 I don't think it was ever Harper's intent to run a big tent party...it was their intent to get dressed up as sheep. I don't think the party can ever be moderated at this point, as it is dominated by Calgary School Idealogues, Kleinists and Harrisites. Quote

Right. Chuck Cadman approves of stealing money. Ken Dryden approves of stealing money. Ed Broadbent approves of stealing money. Peter Milliken approves of stealing money. Stephane Dion approves of stealing money. Belinda Stronach approves of stealing money (and she's a "whore"). Let me tell you ... one problem the tories have with their public image in Canada is that you try to combine two sins which are forgivable in Canadian politics into one which becomes unforgivable. Canadians will forgive disingenuous spin if it is is done temperately. Canadians will also forgive interperate speech if it has the ring of truth. But they don't like intemperate disingenuous speech much at all. Quote

But they don't like intemperate disingenuous speech much at all. Here Here. There are other values at stake: The Charter for one. Social values for another. Moreover, the tories solution to ending corruption is to get out the Liberals, as though corruption is solely a Liberal phenomenon. It isn't. What the NDP and Martin (And Brison and Stronach) are doing is putting in safeguards and transparency to ensure that this doesn't happen again and again. The Tory/Bloc alliance has no such plan. So even on corruption the Cons can't win. Quote
I miss Reagan Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 Should harper resignNo, he should be lynched. More of that liberal tolerance we are so accustomed to. BTW, I'm curious why you 'usual suspects' are so concerned about the well being of the CPC? Why is it that you want Harper to resign, and want us to basically become the Liberal party by being more 'progressive'. If we're indeed so extreme wouldn't it suit you guys better to remain such so as to alienate us from Canada even more so? No, the truth is you're scared to death of us getting into power. Makes sense to me because the Conservaties have shown themselves to be an extremely tolerant bunch in general... Riiiight. And you're right, we are scared to death of Harper getting into power, I'm sure not for the reasons you think however. Quote "They muddy the water, to make it seem deep." - Friedrich Nietzsche
Hawk Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 The problem is Harper won't be able to do anything even IF he manages to get into power...why? Because the socialists of this country would blow a stink bomb every time they tried, and unless they had a majority government and used it like the Liberals to push everything through nothing could be changed. This is why the Canadian system is so pointless, and why the US system is so much better. Voting the party line is basically spitting in the face of true democracy, having the PM be the elector of the Supreme Court Judges totally eliminates the reason they are there, etc etc The budget passing just proves that Liberals are entirely too blinded by their loyalty to their party, but the final straw will be if they aren't ousted once the Gomery ordeal has been furthur audited. I mean, imagine if this sort of 'corruption' was discovered in a ruling Conservative government, can you IMAGINE the sh*tstorm that would result? But since it is a Liberal government everything has been rationalized and ignored to the point where they aren't even going to lose power. This is horrendous and proves that confederation should be dissolved, it is obvious our country cannot function anymore if a majority of the people in it are willing to screw themselves over just to re-elect the same party screwing them. As Einstein said "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Liberal re-election is insanity.
