bigdude Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 Article Conservatives and NDP show gains while Liberals tank. Fascinating world we lioke in. Canada Cons 31%, up 3% Libs 27%, down 3% NDP 20%, up 2% Ontario Cons 35% Libs 34% NDP 25% Interesting to see the NDP with Jack Layton's leadership is right up there doing not too shabby. -from the Globe and Mail By contrast, only a small percentage of those surveyed characterize Mr. Layton as hypocritical or the most likely to lie.Mr. Layton is also seen as the most charismatic of the four men. On a related question, 23 per cent said Mr. Layton is the leader they would most like to have dinner with, more than Mr. Harper and just below Mr. Martin. "While it's far from a groundswell of Layton-mania, there's some fairly good news in here," Mr. Gregg said. Quote
kimmy Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 Action Jack seems to be better-liked than his party. Or perhaps it's just that he's better liked than Martin and Harper. Either way, it does seem like faint praise... However, I will give Layton his due: he has maintained some sense of decorum this past month or so. He seems mature and patient (something he should have tried during his regrettable English-language leaders' debate performance.) I do think he is doing a good job for his party. I think that in a democratic system that wasn't as fundamentally busted as ours is, Jack and his party would do better. -kimmy Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
ScottBrison Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 Can anyone say push poll? I can see the question now: "Keeping in mind that the Gomery inquiry says that the Liberals are scum sucking maggots who have not only stolen gajillions of dollars from the public purse and used it to buy each and every one of them a kickass Ferrari, but have also tried on several occasions to steal your children from you and make them work as slaves to fund their coke habits, and also keeping in mind that the Conservative Alliance has a platform of free milk and cookies for all Canadians, tax cuts so deep it'll make your wallet actually smile at you, and Steven Harper finished second place in balloting for the new Pope, who are you most likely to vote for if an election were held today?" Seriously tho, if Harper gets in defecting to Iraq would look good. Quote
takeanumber Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Hmmmmm, that poll is an outlyer with respect to the previous five. It's too soon to say whether or not this is a new trend. The cons still seem to be stuck at 30, while the libs, have been trending towards 40...I don't know why this poll is so off. I wonder if it's in the methodology. Quote
August1991 Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 With respect to that CTV poll, this is the money shot (from the G & M): But it was voters attitudes to the leaders themselves that appear the most disquieting for Mr. Martin. When asked which party leader is the most hypocritical, 54 per cent chose Mr. Martin, compared to 29 per cent for Mr. Harper. In a similar vein, 63 per cent thought Mr. Martin the most dishonest, compared with 20 per cent for Mr. Harper. Forty per cent of those surveyed had a favourable view of Mr. Martin, compared to 46 per cent for Mr. Harper. Also, explain how anyone can have a favourable view of a politician whom they believe is hypocritical and dishonest - because clearly some poll respondents had to have answered such. ... slaves to fund their coke habits, and also keeping in mind that the Conservative Alliance has a platform of free milk and cookies for all Canadians ...The use of the term "Conservative Alliance" would have guaranteed a Liberal vote, you know that.Hmmmmm, that poll is an outlyer with respect to the previous five. It's too soon to say whether or not this is a new trend. No outlier. It was conducted between 2-8 May when Gomery was back in the news. But keep in mind too that we are watching "minor" shifts of several percentage points between polls. The big change occurred several weeks ago with the significant drop of about 10% in Liberal support. Quote
takeanumber Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 The libs regained all 10 points, and then added some in Ontario over the past 2 weeks. Which makes me question the validity of this poll...that's all. I don't think it's likely for 7 other surveys to be wrong, and have this one show such a dramatic flip. Quote
takeanumber Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Also, as a side note.... Chretiens 'honesty' numbers sucked in the 1997 and 2000 elections, while Clark's was quite high. However, it's the competency numbers that are the most important. Clark scored far, far lower on competency. The question isn't about perceptions of honesty...it's about competency. It always has been. So, the question becomes, is Harper competent? Quote
fellowtraveller Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Seriously tho, if Harper gets in defecting to Iraq would look good. So long then, Scott. Best to practice using the washroom without toilet paper before you'll actually need to. Quote The government should do something.
