To save face and resolve this trade disagreement one of two things will happen. Either Trump decides to drop tariffs out of good will allowing people to save face or as you eloquently put , Canada and the EU must Unilaterally adopt free trade. Canada has however decided to adopt the same protectionist trade with other countries except the US and attempt to diversify it's trade portfolio.
