Media are built on other media.  The telephone was built on, and wiped away the telegraph.  Facebook was built on web technology, which wiped away the old uses of the internet.  People used to chat on websites like this exclusively, and now they mostly do it on Facebook.  There are apps than run on Facebook as a platform.

 

Like the city of Troy, Auguste, technology builds upon the ruins of the past.
