ontariogal22 Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Hello everyone... I am new to the forum however I am not very experienced or knowledgable in Canadian Politics. I am here to learn and take as much information as I can from here. I have a quick question... In your opinion what are the current political issues for debate within Canada? *Same-sex marriage *Terrorism *Health care Anything else you can add would be greatly appreciated. After I compile my list of issues I am doing alot of research online to educate myself as much as possible. Thank you, OntarioGal Quote
Hawk Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 *Quebec's Special Status (How can we be equal with something like this in place?) *Indian Act (Same thinking as above, so much for equality) *Canadian Military Status (Experts estimate it would take 60 years to get our military back to functional status) *Social vs Private Ownership (Which is better?) *Welfare (Who deserves it and how much etc etc?) and so on... =o Quote The only thing more confusing than a blonde is a Liberal Check this out - http://www.republicofalberta.com/ - http://albertarepublicans.org/ "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." - John F. maplesyrup Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Taxation is probably the most contentious issue. Whether or not Canada is, or is in danger of becoming a plutocracy is a good subject to explore. Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. Newfie Canadian Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Along with the ones mentioned above, Miliitary, Security, SSM, I believe Hawk touched on something with his/her Québec comment, though I wouldn't single out Québec. Instead I think what you're going to see is more confrontation between Ottawa and regions, like Atlantic Canada, the West, the Prairies and Québec, over things like revenue sharing and resource management. The provinces want more control, and Ottawa is slow to give it up. I suspect that will soon be a hot topic. 21stCentury Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Hello. This is my first post as well. One issue I don't see mentioned here is the so-called Missile Defence. As I see it, Bush wants to pay billions to the Military-Industrial Compex to build a system which doesn't work. It's an issue here because he is trying to pressure us to join. As you said you wanted to research them, I include THIS LINK which shares my views against it. I'm sure there are many which support it. Quote
fellowtraveller Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 I agree with kimmy, and this may be the #1 issue. A secondary related issue that bothers me is the bland acceptance, by many Canadians, of corruption at the highest levels. Quote The government should do something.
