pamy221 Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 Hi, It is my Friend's wedding in December. We studied together from elementary classes and I don't want to miss her wedding. She is getting married in her mother's home in Michigan. I have never been out of the country before. She told me to check if I would be denied entry into the US since I had a previous DUI record. I checked online about the US entry waiver process. I didn't know till know that Dui is such a big offense. So, Do I have to see an attorney? Can I straight away apply for the process? I read that it would take 6 to 18 months to get the waiver. Will it take that long to get approved? I don't want to miss her marriage. Is being convicted of Dui such a big deal to deny me entry to the US? Quote

I am not an attorney, but my understanding is that DUI is not a crime referred to as "moral turpitude" and so therefore it won't bar you from Xing the border. If they ask you id you ever smoked "dope", say NO. Quote
pamy221 Posted February 6, 2017 Author Report Posted February 6, 2017 I researched it and found DUI to be a criminal offense. Apparently, people convicted of all criminal offense is denied in the US. Quote
?Impact Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 If there is a single DUI conviction then you will probably not have a problem, but if it is multiple DUI or a DUI combined with other misdemeanor offenses then it will require a waiver. Quote
Topaz Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 sad if they won't let u across the border but there seems to be a double standard....meaning both GW and Cheney were allowed in and both have DUI back in the 60-70's but don't argue with the border guards especially on the American side. Actually, Canada has the more restrictive border crossing policy for DUI....one and done. The U.S. is more lenient for one DUI arrest/conviction. BC premier Gordon Campbell was arrested and convicted for DUI in Hawaii. Edited February 6, 2017 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
