The pipeline is 50 to 60 years old, and that has the board concerned about safety and the environment should it continue to operate at 100%. What that means is gas would take longer to reach terminals where tanker trucks pick it up to deliver to stations. “We are looking at a problem with infrastructure not with production.” said McTeague, “All refineries are working at capacity, there’s no issue with gas production, the problem is getting it from the refinery to the gas station.” A possible scenario could be trucks picking up gas for stations being put on allocation which restricts when they can get their fuel during a backlog. Stations from Hamilton to Ottawa could be affected by a shortage, but gas prices would not change. Edited October 4, 2016 by Boges Quote
