bush_cheney2004 Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 (edited) And thus why what Altai said is correct that her country should have a right to block access to those companies. [P.S. We are doing a lot of 'blocking' now, contrary to what some are aware of!! So much for accusing other countries doing this as 'evil'] Being an ardent "nationalist", I am OK with that. Sovereignty includes control over domains that cross borders. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Alphabet/Google, Pinterest, Yahoo, Microsoft, etc. are American muti-national conglomerates with corporate objectives and ideals that are often inconsistent with foreign government policies/laws. They are also surrogates for U.S. and other intelligence gathering services. Block 'em as needed. Edited September 7, 2016 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

We use those American services to the extreme. Also, all our Canadian government sites are actually privately owned and maintained, with likely American or other international interests. Also, where moderation occurs, they have protected private moderators which basically throws out all our rights to actual 'free speech'. Quote

Agreed....I have often pointed out that this MLW forum is very much in an American domain (hosting service, server location, forum engine, database, etc.). Canadian media often describes American social media services as if they are domestically owned and controlled, but they are not. Facebook and Twitter links on Canadian political party and government web sites....seriously ? These American based services are ubiquitous and pervasive, and voluntarily used by billions of people. dialamah Posted September 7, 2016 Report Posted September 7, 2016 Yes I think you are right and I was wrong. Wow, how often do we see this in the forums? Quote
