square Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 Looks like the Liberals will be looking at mandatory minimum sentences. They will probably get rid of some of them for the lesser "crimes" and keep them for serious crimes. I think it's important to have a good criminal justice policy in Canada. How should we deal with this problem? http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadian-politics/liberals-looking-to-build-wiggle-room-into-mandatory-minimums-brought-in-by-conservatives Quote
dialamah Posted August 23, 2016 Report Posted August 23, 2016 I don't like the idea of trading an early guilty plea for a reduced sentence. People who are without funds or adequate representation are already being browbeaten into plea deals, even when they're innocent. Quote
cybercoma Posted August 23, 2016 Report Posted August 23, 2016 Mandatory Minimum sentences do nothing more than undermine the right to a fair trial by giving crown attorneys more power during the plea stage. The facts of a case and the circumstances of your crimes mean nothing when judges are stripped of judicial discretion. Quote
PIK Posted August 23, 2016 Report Posted August 23, 2016 Keep dangerous people off the streets longer. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
dre Posted August 24, 2016 Report Posted August 24, 2016 Keep dangerous people off the streets longer. It also creates more dangerous people. Quote I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger
