That's another non-answer. Why was the law changed so that people who wanted Canadian passports no longer had to state they intended to live in Canada?

What was the inspiration for this change? Why did you think it was so important to do given such a change is clearly not in Canada's interests?

Who are you to determine it isn't in Canada's interests?

The change requiring the statement of intention to reside was against the spirit of what Canada has always represented.

Anything including hyperbolic nonsense. Maybe they'll be the next Hitler?

Air travel isn't new.

How is it nonsense. The point is, whatever these kids become in the future, we won't be able to refuse them entry if they decide to come here.

As has always been the case.

It is nonsense. They could also become innovative entrepreneurs creating high paying jobs in Canada.

In which case we would be glad to have them as regular immigrants. You can screen refugees, you can screen immigrants. You can't screen what an infant may become in 30 years while living in another country. So what's in it again for Canada?

You could say about anyone. Why bother having immigration controls at all then. Fling open the gates and the let the world flood in. If you don't have an issue with restriction immigration in general then you hardly object because some people think some of the current rules restricting who is granted access should be tightened. There is no moral right to Canadian citizenship for tourists. Most other countries do not offer that privilege and there is no benefit to Canada. Edited by TimG

There is absolutely no evidence to justify the costs in overhauling the system.

We've always done it that way. I can't remember how many times I heard that during my career to justify procedures that had been outdated for 30 years.

We are not most other countries. We are first and foremost Canadians.

What cost? You no longer grant citizenship by birth to foreign non residents who's parents are not refugees and have another citizenship. How is that going to cost more?

Sounds incredibly easy. Can you present a low cost approach to the govt and have it succeed without encroaching on the privacy of citizens?

Oh really? And I thought the spirit of what Canada represented was people coming here and making a new life. Apparently to Liberals it's people taking a passport and then going back to China.

These assaults on anchor babies are incredibly racist.

That is an inane attempt at insulting people who disagree with you because you are incapable of discussing anything rationally.

Some of us are. Some of us just have passports that say so stuck in a wall safe in Hong Kong.

Just because you don't like the term racist doesn't make what's happening in this thread not true.

Just because the only thing you understand about the topic is that it seems to primarily concern foreigners of Asian extraction does not mean it has anything to do with racism.

If they were European "anchor babies" would that still be racist? Explain please. The only reason the Chinese are being brought up is that they are the chief exploiters of the loophole.

I don't think you have a case. What's sad is I don't think that if you had one you are capable of presenting it.

So answer it, you are the one calling racism.

I'm not the one asking for an overhaul of the system.
