Big Guy
In the following 1.5 minute clip, Trudeau outlines his plan on electoral reform: http://www.newslook.com/videos/852410-justin-trudeau-promises-electoral-reform Under a Liberal government, a special, all-party parliamentary committee would be given 18 months to examine proportional representation, ranked ballots and other possible replacements for the first-past-the-post voting system. Trudeau promised to introduce legislation to overhaul Canada’s federal electoral routine based on the committee’s recommendations. I guess the question is when the all-party committee will be formed, what their recommendations will be after 18 months and if Trudeau will decide to implement it. Will it be allowed a minority report? I still feel that the ranked ballot system will eventually be implemented which is a compromise between proportional rep and FPTP. Smoke
50/50 Looks like they already are going to break their promise. They’ve decided to settle the question within Parliament (and a House of Commons where they enjoy a comfortable and obedient majority), rather than consult with Canadians, as they had promised. Commons work does not preclude consultations. Edited January 1, 2016 by Smallc
Smoke
Commons work does not preclude consultations. Except we all know how partisan consultations can be.
Smallc
Except we all know how partisan consultations can be. We all know how partisan the lead up to any kind of public vote can be, too.
