Stoolie: Canada pol in mob

I wonder if this is a case of mistaken identity.

Personally I find this the least shocking revelation since the sun rose this morning (YET AGAIN!)

He's a corrupt little thug. Is it really shocking to hear that he has ties to other corrupt people? Corrupt people network with other corrupt people.

And finding a high-ranking Public Works official with ties to organized crime is unusual only in that this time it was the national public works department instead of a civic one. :P

If it is true the Liberal party had better get going to do some serious damage control.

Why bother? Gagliano's part of the Chretien era. All this does is give Martin another opportunity to point out that he fired Gagliano's corrupt little ass. It might even help Martin win that wrongful dismissal lawsuit that Gagliano filed against him.

Alfonso Gagliano was interviewed briefly on Global tonight. He felt it was completely unfair that the paper published the story without contacting him to get his side of the story (or, at least giving his trigger-men a chance to "whack" the reporter). Needless to say, Gagliano insists he has never met any of the people mentioned in the article.

Today was not the first time "Gagliano" and "mob" have been used in the same sentence during Question Period, as a few years ago was accused of using his influence to help an Italian mobster's wife obtain Permanent Resident status in Canada.

It is one thing to accept a patronage position, it is another to arrange party finances with taxpayer money, it is still another to accept envelopes stuffed with cash and finally being a mobster is something else again.

You refer to Gagliano as a "corrupt little thug". I saw his photo and he's apparently not small. Corrupt, maybe. Mafia thug? Those are strong words unless we're talking New Jersey or Maryland politics. As to Gagliano, let's wait and see.

From MS' link above:

MacKay said, "the question was prepared by a French-speaking aide; French not being my first language, I did not immediately understand the implications of those words, and many people felt offended by the way the question was formulated."
To me, this is the damning quote. PM PM did the same recently. It amounts to blaming an underling for a mistake. These guys are supposed to get the big bucks for taking responsibility.

I have a few choice Italian words for this little @$!hole.

But, what do you expect from a guy who gained people's votes to do one thing (lead the PC's to victory and promise not to merge with the Alliance) and then do the exact opposite (abandon them in favour of a merger with the Alliance)? Then, he decided not to even run for the "new party"! MacKay is the lowest of the low; down there with Campbell and addicts. (Oops sorree, I am not responsible for any of this...this staiytment was preepaird bi a stoopid ethnick underleeng; a dum inferierr :D ).

I would imagine that G's just the token thug. It takes many thugs to make up a government. Hell, that's why individuals spend so much time, energy, and others money to claw their way into office--to enter the hallowed halls of thuggery. And rarely are they disappointed because damned if they don't go through the very same process to get re-elected.

I'm hoping there's nobody "out there" who still actually thinks of politicians as public servants. All I can say is that we the public should just be humbly thankful that those who "serve" us don't fleece us more than they do. Praise the Lord.

I would suggest that just about every Liberal sitting in this government has ties of some kind to either sponsorship, or soe other scheme we haven't found out about yet, and that includes our PM. Let's at least be honest with ourselves here, one might be honest and innocent upon entering into politics but they learn to get over it pretty quick, after they learn that they really have no say other than what the leader tells them.

I've seen photos of him as well... he seems to be a full head shorter than every adult male I've seen him photographed with. I suppose it's possible that he just has very tall friends...

Corrupt, maybe.

Maybe? :D

I still have high hopes that somebody from Chretien's inner circle is going to see jail time. Sadly, it looks like a few underlings will take the fall. Just like in the mob.

I didn't say mafia thug. I just said thug. Wait and see? Wait for what? I doubt anything will ever come of this. Although I doubt Gagliano is going to be planning any trips to New York for a while. :P
