Dog-Whistle Politics

Yeah, but he's likeable. Harper isn't. That's quite an extraordinary handicap for a politician which he has overcome amazingly well. Until now. Now he's not looking so good.

At least you have the insight not to argue about that bizarre rictus Steve puts on to impersonate a friendly person.

Well thank goodness he is likable, his ashley madison profile wont go unnoticed.

O its just intolerable, i literally see about one ad a day from each party, maybe i need more free time to watch tv that annoys me, o the first world democratic problems we must endure.

The unusual length of the campaign was an abuse of process by the Conservatives, not a trivial matter BTW and one of many problems with our system. Fortunately, it is now biting them in the posterior.

I'm not so sure it's an abuse of process as much as demonstrated just how worthless fixed elections are. Actually, I think fixed elections in a Parliamentary system are worse than useless, and are actually very bad indeed, but Harper's August dropping of the writ demonstrated that even the stated purpose of preventing a PM from calling an election to suit his own needs isn't met.

Sadly, I have little expectation that the next Government will repeal it.

Harper's confrontational style has affected everything he as done at home and abroad. He seems to be happier with

enemies than friends.

What's it like living in a world where everything is in reality exactly the opposite of the way you see them? It must be tough. But it's true he isn't the soft, cuddly, silver spoon son of a former PM, strange isn't it though, i seem to recall plenty of complaints from liberals, even here in Canada, about the nepotism that got Bush the second elected President in the USA, but the liberal ventriloquist doll running here gets a free pass despite being no less stupid. I can only assume this disparity has something to do with the permanent state of cognitive dissonance his supporters exist in, this would seem to be validated by the statement you made and the link i provided to prove how utterly ridiculous a thing it was to write.

no - we've gone over this already... if you actually look at the particulars of how that "reputation" is arrived at, the inner domestic workings of countries are not examined; notwithstanding that consulting company has a marketing focus... one that relies upon online surveys of G8 country "consumers" to arrive at its "rankings"! :D

These Conservative ads are becoming intolerably frequent. How much of this are we expected to take? I may do violence to my poor TV yet. Harper trying to smile is one of the most pathetic sights in all creation; he has seen other people do it, he KIND of has the mechanics right, but the result is something that looks like it's about to rip your leg off.

?? Hmmm ... like something that answered the dog whistle ...?

And no doubt Harper himself is answering someone else's dog whistle.

Congratulations, Canada: now the world is talking about your Prime Minister's "racist" rhetoric

How do we want the world to see us?

The last month has been devastating for Canada's international reputation from 1-800 hotlines to snitch on your neighbour to screening refugees based on their religion to policing how a handful of women dress doesn't square with what most Canadians have in mind when they think: mutual-respect.
