sorry... didn't see you had started a thread; I'll re-post here:

in an apparent attempt to counter the declared "misinformation" from Opposition parties concerning the abysmal treatment of Canadian veterans by Harper Conservatives: Conservatives looking for veterans to sing praises of Harper: email

An email being circulated among former Canadian soldiers suggests federal Conservatives are looking for a few happy, satisfied veterans to appear in television ads backing the prime minister, The Canadian Press has learned.

The email appears to have been written by Kris Sims, who is on leave from her role as director of communications for Veterans Affairs Minister Erin O'Toole in order to work for the party during the campaign.

In it, she asks to be connected with ex-soldiers who are willing to appear on camera and prepared "to say in their own words why (Stephen) Harper is the best choice for Canada, based on their military experience and the threats we face in the world."

by email? Is there a problem... finding any?

I know a lot of vets that would do it. It seems the problem is the vet takes his money and then blows it, and it is then harper's fault. How many vets live long enough to get 300gs in pension money. What the gov should do is offer free financial services.

Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

other than you once again providing your unsubstantiated opinion... can you actually back this statement up... with fact?

Have you looked at the salary and benefits for the military lately? Even enlisted men get very handsomely rewarded.

And here I thought veterans were retiring on those benefits, after a long career making very nice money.

and the lifetime pension that Harper killed... substituting one-time payments... and then spent almost 3/4 million dollars in legal fees to fight veterans challenges to that? Notwithstanding clawbacks to the one-time payments! That pension, that benefit?

and the veterans "Anyone But Conservatives (ABC)" campaign... wassup with that! Just a bunch of whiners, right?

Too small for what?

See below...

It exceeds the gap.......and why would you have the Government allocate funding for items today when we have no plans to purchase said items for several years+

...the gap is this. We spend about $20 - 21B right now. To maintain our current forces, as the are, the PBO estimates that we should be spending $24B right now. Not only have the Conservatives cut the base funding that the promised to provide, but said funding was already a short.

DND doesn't have a piggybank, what they don't spend is returned

And so even less money that was promised is actually utilized, causing a further shortfall (not to mention the effects of inflation).

Name one.

Australia

Of course they've reduced flight training and sailing time, we've retired 5 surface vessels and have aircraft deployed on operation in Iraq and Europe.......are you suggesting those overseas on operations aren't receiving training? I'm shocked!!!!

These things were a reality before we retired 4 surface vessels (the 5th is still technically on active duty). That was there quick fix, given limited resources.

Also, until this year, those flying days overseas were funded from the normal DND budget. There's no reason that they should have been lower, given that those aircraft were still operating, just somewhere else.
