I always love these claims. The theory is that since universities staff and students are leftist, being a lefty must go with being educated.

In a nutshell, the harder the degree is, the more objectively evaluated the material, the more likely the graduate votes conservative. Also the more likely that same degree produces financial stability.

A generalization for sure but sadly, generally true.

I'm in favour of honesty and transparency.

You remember them. Those were the things that Harper and his corrupt cronies promised to bring back to Ottawa.

Again, your reply had absolutely no relation to my post, so please remove my name when you're choosing to make a statement rather than reply to anything I say.

Yeah, you won't find too many people working in the financial industry voting NDP, as opposed to say, social workers and teachers.

Not to many successful business owners either.

And of course you have a cite for this claim....?

Well, I'm not surprised that you don't like to be reminded that Harper promised honesty and transparency. They have no relation to anything during his time in office, either.

On the contrary. I directly addressed the list by pointing out it was pretty minor stuff compared to what the last government has done. I could have used the Mulroney or Trudeau governments but the result would be the same. You can honestly attack this government for a variety of reasons but not on corruption.

So, in your view diminishing Canadian democracy is minor stuff.

I think you're operating under the illusion that democracy is diminished when you don't get your way. That's not how it works.

No, I'm operating on the premise that when power is usurped from elected officials and transferred to unelected drones in the PMO democracy is diminished.

And when one party fiddles with the electoral rules in a way that provides that party with a greater chance of winning future elections, democracy is diminished.

And when a government prevents knowledge gleaned from publicly funded science from being distributed to the people it is supposedly accountable to, democracy is diminished.

And when a supposedly responsible government negotiates trade deals that will fundamentally alter public institutions in secret, democracy is diminished.

And when a party cheats on elections and deliberately attempts to disenfranchise voters that aren't likely to vote for them, democracy is diminished.

And when a government gags its own ministers in favour of talking point from the PMO, democracy is diminished.

And when even the PM is too cowardly to face the media to answer to the people, democracy is diminished.

I don't expect right wingers to care about things like democracy because most of them only care for something that you can put a price sticker on. Oh, I forgot. You are "disappointed".

You are operating on the premise that you believe things, so they must be true.

And when one party fiddles with the electoral rules in a way that provides that party with a greater chance of winning future elections, democracy is diminished.

O but a promise to go to proportional representation isn't, surely.

And when a government prevents knowledge gleaned from publicly funded science from being distributed to the people it is supposedly accountable to, democracy is diminished.

What great knowledge are they hiding that we don't already know about?

And when a supposedly responsible government negotiates trade deals that will fundamentally alter public institutions in secret, democracy is diminished.

How?

And when a party cheats on elections and deliberately attempts to disenfranchise voters that aren't likely to vote for them, democracy is diminished.

It's 2015, get some ID, and live here...what monsters they are.

So what do you feel like you dont know? You seem to have a long list of things to complain about for someone who hasn't been informed enough.

Yep, you got it all figured out, your democracy is the correct democracy, just what is wrong with everyone else?

I don't think democracy is something you really have a lot of interest in. You're just pissed that a non-Liberal party has held power for the last eight years.

The instant a left of centre government takes over you'll happily abide anything and everything they do without concern as to the health of democracy.

Since you've failed to address anything I've said in my post, I assume that you can't find any excuses, however feeble, for Harper's behavior.

Because you only care about taxes and don't give a crap about things like honesty and democracy. Most right wingers only assign value to things that have a price tag on them.

How in all that is holy is democracy threatened in canada? I mean really. We are having an election. Just because the party with the most seats wins and passes legislation without input from the opposition doesnt mean democracy is done.

Democracy is threatened when the party in power does everything they can to change the rules to keep themselves in power. I mean why would any party limit the use of government issued election cards? Knowing full well that many of the people that have these cards will not vote for them?

Is that not stifling democracy?

Why would a government reduce the power of the electoral branch?

Is that not stifling democracy?

When a government uses robocalls to misdirect voters.

Is that not stifling democracy?

Honestly bud, they're just not that honest.

"Oh there's some money to be made here!" The mating call of the far right, and believe me they'll all come running as long as they're close enough to hear it.

Yet we still have elections. Thats not my problem the other parties cant obtain enough support to win the past few elections.

Im sure the ndp was "stifling" democracy with their kerfuffle with canada post.

Please do explain how they were keeping voters from voting against them.

I'd sure like to hear it.

That still doesn't explain anything, because they weren't attempting to limit voters rights in any way.

Only Harper cons will stoop that low.

I'm sure if you'd write most of them a cheque, they'd bend over for it.

I've already given examples of how the preceding governments were much more corrupt and dishonest than the Harper government. You simply don't care because you have no real interest in corruption or honesty as an issue. You simply hate the Tories for being conservative. Period. End of story.

You mean like giving up the long-held privilege of the party in power to call an election whenever the time is to their advantage?

What makes you think that has been give up?

It would have been far more to their advantage to have called this election last year or in the spring, when the economic downturn due to oil falling was pretty easy to see coming down the road. They did not do this because of the set election time they created.
