cybercoma Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 If you can take any offhand remark by a cabinet minister as being government policy, written or not, then I can point out what a hypocrite you're being.Cabinet Ministers don't have the luxury of making offhand remarks. Any comment they make is government policy. That's not my rule, that's the way parliament has worked forever. Quote
cybercoma Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) Odd, I suppose Mulcair travels more than Harper, Trudeau and May combined, since his expense far exceed the other's expenses.....So what's he spending the money on then? You have any evidence of some sort of impropriety? Does he buy $24 orange juice too? Are we going to have Mulcair lead away in shackles like prominent Conservatives? Derek 2.0 Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 Like Greece? THat's a seriously stupid question. No, the NDP refuse to repay several million dollars of other people's money, like Greece, which refuses to pay billions of dollars of other people's money....I see a common theme....... Quote

I have no idea what he spends it on, that is why I'm asking why Mulcair bills Canadian taxpayers a greater total for his travel (and live out expenses) than Harper, Trudeau and May combined..... Evening Star Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 She's in the shadow cabinet. Following his logic then, not paying our creditors is now NDP policy. Even if I were to assume this logic works (and I find cyber more convincing so far), I'm not sure that "Yes to democracy; No to austerity" means this. Quote

There's no reason Greece can't repay creditors without the crippling terms they put on the debts. Naomi Klein said "vote no against blackmail and terror." The crippling terms of the IMF are indeed blackmail and terror. It's exacerbated the problems in Greece and was rightfully slapped down by Greek voters. Quote

cybercoma Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 But we get it. Having taxpayers hand over all their money to banks, while unemployment skyrockets is what the Conservatives consider strong and stable economics. We can see here at home where their strong and stable hand of austerity has lead us. Right into the dumpster with a falling GDP and all of our eggs in one unstable, unreliable basket. Quote

Bryan Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) Source? http://www.torontosun.com/2015/07/06/canada-must-avoid-greek-entitlement That's when the IMF and others jumped in. Simply put, that's other nations' taxpayers' money. It's redistribution. So you can understand why the lenders wanted Greece to agree to clean up their act. They didn't want them coming back for more. But they did. The first bailout was in 2010, then there was another finalized in 2012. During this time private credit holders agreed to take a 53.5% loss on what Greece owed them. Thus anyone calling out for debt forgiveness needs to understand that it already happened. The funny thing is the situation actually improved for Greece towards the end of 2014. The economy was looking rosier. But voters got impatient with the slow pace of improvements and did something really naive. They voted for a party, Syriza, that's an acronym for "coalition of the radical left". And by radical, they meant radical. In North America, someone on the centre-left gets called a Marxist as a hyperbolic slur. But over there, many of them really are Marxists. Syriza campaigned on ignoring previous bailout terms - this next part is key - that they'd already agreed to. This naturally made their lenders nervous and caused the crisis that resulted in Sunday's referendum. Edited July 7, 2015 by Bryan Quote
