August1991 Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 (edited) According to economists, individuals respond to incentives, signals. But how do we create signals to determine direction? What is a new signal? In my experience, modern ordinary Chinese respond to signals but I'm not certain that they create new signals. People in America, OTOH, create a new direction to follow. And Swedes too. Am I wrong? Edited June 13, 2015 by August1991 Quote
Michael Hardner Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 It's a difficult thing to examine as there are so many cultural biases at play. I continue to be fascinated by Quebec's ascendance, though, from the 1960s to present. What do you think the factors are/were in creating the so-called signal or direction ? - The Quiet Revolution; why and how and who made that happen ? why was Quebec ready for it ? - the homogeneous population with a history and culture of its own - cultural factors endemic to the Quebec people ? I would be interested in your thoughts. Applying these things to other groups in a systemic way may be difficult, but you can examine historical changes in other societies, such as: - the breakup of Yugoslavia - the perpetual dischord in the middle east and Africa that came from colonial "nations" that forced disparate peoples together in a non-cohesive way - wars, wars, wars... as a problem and as a solution to problems Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase !
