Argus
The attendance record in the Senate and House of Commons is not reflective of hard work. Perhaps you could expand on the hard work required to be appointed to the Senate. for one side of the deal means a total commission of $26K. That is an expensive house/condo Senators aren't politicians. Politicians are the bunch who have to run for office, who have to knock on doors, kiss babies, and attend every damn boring event in their riding every year to keep their face out there. They also have to deal with constituent problems once in office, not to mention trying to get donations for their next election. All that is part of the job, along with sitting in parliament or whatever meeting place is at their level, and sitting on various committees. John
If you think a realtor brings value to the table then he/she is worth the money. If you don't think a realtor brings value to the table then he/she isn't worth the money. A good realtor will be many things: A chauffeur, a negotiator, a cleaning person, a decorator, a project manager, a psychiatrist (for divorcing/fighting couples), a marketer... The kicker is that all of these things are done for free...until a deal is completed. How many detractors of the profession themselves actually work with no guarantee of getting paid? Are there bad realtors? Yes, of course. Just like there are bad carpenters, plumbers, contractors, hockey players, lawyers, doctors, politicians...the list goes on and on. Do these "bad" workers deserve their money? Someone must think so...because if they are employed they get paid... Full disclosure: I'm a realtor. SpankyMcFarland
Here's a happy mortgage story: http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/mortgage-pay-off-three-years-1.3302229 There's a natural human tendency to spend and to admire and envy those who show their status by spending. We really have to encourage frugality again. For many young people it will become a vital skill as good jobs gradually disappear.
cannuck
Realtors, developers, etc. only manage to skim a bundle out of the economy because we, as buying public, are ignorant and greedy. If we weren't so idiotic as to pay 2x, 3x, 5x, or whatever replacement cost is for housing, there wouldn't BE all that money in the system to pay an army of useless tits. BUT: we THINK our home is some kind of "investment" so we will just keep giving the business so much money it can't help but be rather profitable. Plus, of course, the Jones factor....got to keep up with them. Edited November 21, 2015 by cannuck
