Big Guy Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 About a year ago, Tom Flanagan, in a university setting in Lethbridge, Alta., infamously mused about whether there was a need for jail sentences for consumers of child pornography. Once the video hit Youtube, Tom was immediately pilloried by the press, denounced by his enemies in all parties (and he had many including those surrounding the PM that he had mentored in the past), lost all of his contracts and was quickly buried under a mound of insinuations and accusations. Any attempt by Tom to try to explain what he called “an academic exercise” was ignored and obscured by those who are more politically correct. Tom Flanagan, a former Conservative strategist and mentor to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, is now one of 30 advertised speakers for the sixth-annual Manning Networking Conference, which attracts Conservative supporters from across the country. Look like “HE'S BACK !!!!” I have been following Tom's career for many years. While I do not share his political philosophy, I respect, enjoy and have missed his forthright commentary and hope that he returns to the national media. I do hope that he has not been cowed into becoming just another talking political head. As to his original transgression, I remember some the of the hypotheses offered for discussion during my own days in university sociology, anthropology, psycholgy etc classes. If cell phones and the “gotcha” atmosphere was around during those times then none of the professors would have survived the academic year. Welcome back Tom. Let the games begin. Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.
jacee Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 (edited) Tom's always been a backroom darling of the far right. That never changed. He's just not 'storefront' material anymore ... but then ... being a loose cannon, he never really was ready for primetime. Nope ... no change here. I'll bet he's been a speaker at most or all 'Manning' events. Edited January 16, 2014 by jacee Quote
August1991 Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 (edited) Welcome back Tom. Let the games begin. Would you say the same of David Suzuki? Left wing floozie or political zombie? Edited January 16, 2014 by August1991 Quote
