Ok, but in spite of "good intentions", many of the things that the US has done have INCREASED the odds of future terrorist attacks.

From places and groups that would have took a shot at the US anyways. But, not to worry. By the looks of things the US is getting ready for one of its isolationist periods when we're all on our own. I predict everybody will behave in a civilized fashion...lol.

Yes because all of the USA is very civilized. Not trotting around the world starting wars is not isolationism either.

Isolationism means that the US would not participate in international trade as well as participating in military operations around the world.

There are many nations who are not going around starting wars, and they still trade with the international community. Are you going to call those nations isolationists? The only one that seems to fit that bill of isolationism is North Korea, but they are not 100% as they do trade with China.

My contention is that while the US is in this mode, true world peace as we've known it all of our lives is in jeopardy. Fellows like yourself and others might engage in schadenfreude at the US's troubles and downfall. But you might be doing this right up until you get sent to the front...if you're young enough. If you're too old...who knows? Starvation? How much food is grown in YOUR hometown? Mine...zero.

But, hey...world wars never happen...

Not since the development of nukes. MAD keeps the peace between nations that are powerful enough to engage in what could be considered a world war.

Lots of food is grown around the Ottawa region. However, a good deal of it is GMO crops. And if you are smart, and I hope you are, you have already prepared for emergencies. Not sure if you ever want to hear 'We are from the government and we are here to help' when a crisis arises.

Would you like to see a population already sick of war revolt if a draft was reinstated? That is what you will get. People today are more aware of the atrocities done in their name under the guise of protecting 'interests' abroad. Those interests are not people one bit. If one thinks it is about people, they are completely delusional. That tactic is only used to pull at heart strings and get people all emotionally involved. This risks the wrong decision being made and supported.

There are many countries the USA could go in and help. Haiti is right next door. But not even medical supplies could get in. The USA controlled the runway. And Haiti is STILL all f'ed up to this day.

And don't forget this number.

Canada had a heavy hand here. We helped remove an elected leader. That is not promoting democracy.

The war in Afghanistan lasted longer than both world wars combined. How is Iraq doing? Those weekly bombings are still going on. What about the hotspots in Africa? Asia? Middle East? Why is the USA so selective in what countries get freedom?

We are heading towards another potential world war. Syria might just be the catalyst. Not sure yet. We both agree that Assad is not a good choice, and we agree that the rebels are even a worse choice. Those are not good options. We can also talk about this so called civil war that the US is making worse by supporting terrorists in Syria.

No no, we don't need to talk about the CIA's involvement in Iran. We don't need to talk about how the USA did chemical experiments on their own population during those wars. UK did it too.

Here is another bit of lying and hypocrisy from the US government under Obama.

Such treaties generally do not have mechanisms for enforcement. As far as we know, no nation has ever attacked another to punish it for the use of chemical weapons, so Obama’s request is unprecedented.

We forgot about Iraq already? Or do you believe it was for freedom and democracy?
