Topaz Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Tory MP Ted Menzies is leaving the House when the next election is called. He is the Minister of State for finance and now Harper will have more work to do when he changes his government face. The Minister of Fisheries is also out for now with cancer. I can't remember a government party having more of its members leave its party while being the seating government. The Tories also have many older people, who may also chose to leave after the next election. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/alberta-tory-mp-ted-menzies-says-wont-run-151920744.html Quote
Newfoundlander Posted July 4, 2013 Report Posted July 4, 2013 Imagine a man announcing he'll retire when he's 63 and another getting cancer, all Harper's fault! Quote

They just had to call 5 Byelections. At least this guy is staying until the next election. Quote

Topaz Posted July 4, 2013 Author Report Posted July 4, 2013 Is there a problem? I just reported because I thought some people would like to know and nothing more and the fact that 5 Ontario Liberals quit ,doesn't belong in the "federal" but if you would like to talk about it under the "province" section, I'll meet you there and we can talk about that too. PIK Posted July 4, 2013 Report Posted July 4, 2013 (edited) OK So what is wrong, I doubt this is rats jumping off a sinking ship(ONT) this will bring in alot of new blood and new ideas. And harper will have time to see if it is a good thing or not and make up his mind about the next election. Anyone read kinsella story on 10 reason why he could quit. The interview with lilley was better but for once warren made of sense. Topaz Posted July 4, 2013 Author Report Posted July 4, 2013 Adding to the group of leaving is now Ablonczy and LeBreton, is leaving as head of the Conservative's in the senate. The Mp's that are leaving, I wonder if they will return as senators? http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2013/07/04/pol-conservative-resignations-cabinet.html Quote
AlienB Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 (edited) its not just menzies about 5 cabinet ministers minimum will not be running in the next election and have seemed to say they should not get a cabinet post.. most are older than 60.. this includes Le Breton who is 73.. and the tories say no more cabinet posts will come from the senate, which is a pretty broad and shortsighted statement. the senate is filled with some of the most experienced people around. They are going into retirement from politics. There will probably be a few more before 2015. there will be a major shift in finance (this potentially in relation to changes in industry and trade as well as the central bank). its just a question of who.. from what I can tell foreign affairs, maybe citizenship and finance, an potentially public safety will all change. but flaherty will likely stay on as minister of finance... People to watch are baird and kenney to see if their portfolios change. the rest will be back benchers.. people say it will all be people from western canada. imo the biggest change may be public safety. if it doesn't come now there is a good chance it will happen before 2015. the other posts are minor such as fisheries, and ministers of state. also it seems environment may also see a change... http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/environment-minister-signals-he-may-leave-in-cabinet-shuffle/article13023539/ not that type of climate change silly. ok everyones name in a hat now... Topaz Posted July 5, 2013 Author Report Posted July 5, 2013 Peter Kent, the Environment Minister, says he'll like to be a backbencher, does he know something we don't? Harper should save tax dollars and forget about naming a new one, they don't believe in the environment. Quote

I don't think he's quitting politics or leaving caucus; he's just stepping back from his cabinet position. I mean, the guy doesn't do anything in the riding any way. He doesn't respond to emails. He skips out on meetings that are booked constantly. He's an awful MP, but I feel bad that he has cancer. Andy Scott, the Liberal MP that Ashfield replaced, just died last week from cancer as well. Apparently, being a Frederictonian MP is cancer inducing. Quote
AlienB Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 Very surprised to see this http://www.680news.com/2013/07/08/toews-resigns/ I was expecting the post to change if he opted not to run again during the shuffle but a resignation was not expected. Looks like he may end up on a board of some sort. Not sure exactly what is in store. Quote
Topaz Posted July 8, 2013 Author Report Posted July 8, 2013 Well, whoever the backbenchers are , I hope the increase in pension and wages make up for the stress their lives are about to take. Some think Harper will pick more women this time around but it doesn't really matter who they are. Quote
MadX Posted July 11, 2013 Report Posted July 11, 2013 Another member of Harper's government jumping ship. Vic Toews just quit as well. They know the ship is going down, best to get off now while they still can. Quote http://www.antiharper.com

The Bloc and the Greens are the only parties that are doing well I suppose. Quote
