WWWTT Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) Your claim that the war turned around as soon as the US entered is just wrong. False! The US was always there,as an occupier. But they needed re-enforcements and without US involvement, game over! The claim implied was that NK would not survive without China(true and I will not contest). But the south needed the US or they would have lost to the North!(this is my claim) And until more re enforcements were sent, the south was losing.(and you provided the link, thank you) Therefore you have the north and the south. DogOnPorch Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 In other words you don't know. WWWTT I think you have a very confused idea of the conduct of the Korean War...a war where many Canadians as well as other Allied forces fought and died. It wasn't a cake walk and the NK were never defeated. In a nut shell.... Battle of Pusan: The worst out and out sh*tkicking the US had taken in a long, long, long time. It was as if they were playing the Japanese in some cruel remake of the Battle of Okinawa. As mentioned, cooks and clerks were forced to grab weapons. Casualties were beyond horrendous for the numbers of US troops involved...let alone the glorified police force that was the ROK's army. No tanks...planes...heavy weapons until much later in the war for them. The Army of the DPRNK was superbly equipped and trained by the Soviets. Battle of Inchon: MacArthur arrives to turn things around in a brilliant and very difficult amphibious assault. He cut across Korea isolating the NK Army attacking Pusan. This forced a general retreat of NK forces which turned into a rout. MacArthur pursued. The Yalu: MacArthur chases the NK to the Chinese border and muses about invading China. Meets an angry Truman at Wake Island to discuss the Chinese. China, already itching to do SOMETHING attacks UN forces first and the 2nd big UN retreat begins with numerous forces getting trapped behind lines. Unsan, Chosin, Onjong all occurred during this phase. MacArthur ultimately canned. The 38th: The retreat halts around the old starting lines...a WW1 like war continues until 1953. DogOnPorch Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 You: Ya actually the NK were winning the war until the US helped SK. Me: Unless you count Pusan and all that went with it. The US was there but certainly not winning. Five thousand dead and many more than that wounded was a wake-up call. You: You can't be right...therefore you're wrong. Sums it up. Signals.Cpl Posted March 9, 2013 Report Posted March 9, 2013 North Korea was always a threat in my view. Way more so than Iran. I look at NK as some kind of 'wild card' meaning you are not quite sure what to expect from the isolationist country. North Korea is a threat only to South Korea, they are not a wild card they will go as far as China is willing to let them go...once China says stop they may huff and puff all they want but they will go back in their corner and sulk. Signals.Cpl Posted March 9, 2013 Report Posted March 9, 2013 Thanks for proving my point! Signals.Cpl Posted March 9, 2013 Report Posted March 9, 2013 NK is the puppet of China. Ever heard of good cop/bad cop? This is all because of Japan. But don't worry, the US will set Japan straight,China will be happy and NK will eventually go away. How's that threat of Iran having nukes and nuking Israel going by the way? What ever happened to that? WWWTT All about Japan?
